I hope things work out rag3 18. Don't expect things to be the same if they do get bought out. With new owners come new idea's. Good and bad.
If not enjoy you some time off and carefully pick a new job. You have enough experience to chose where you want to work.
That's all and fine max if the savings is passed to the consumer. Last I seen, all the prices keep increasing in the stores and unemployment is still way up there. It's nothing but corporate greed that does the average American no good. 85% of small businesses own 15% of the wealth in America. 15% of the businesses own 85% of the wealth. I don't know about you, but real competition is a few even companies competing against each other. These mega businesses are stomping out the little guy and do what they want literally. Customer service comes only from the small guys. That's another thread by itself.
Good luck rag3 18!

You are exactly right Condo there is alot of unknowns at this point on how the takeover will affect the drivers I guess it will be a wait and see...I am going back out of loyalty to them because they been really good to me but I need to know when to cut the ropes if need be. Today Im going to help a farm haul silage back to the pit from the fields I did that when I was 18 didnt even have my CDL yet its sure going to bring back memories I gots to keep busy.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
It's the government that is driving many of the smaller business' out.

Just got off work hauling silage I gotta say I hadn't have that much fun in a long time. The dirt roads, windy, muddy full of humps and dips that spread like spaghetty thru the valley of San Joaquin it was literally like another state I was in. Driving side by side next to a 1200 horse power chopper was exciting to say the least. I'v been on the pavement for all 3 yrs of my career and was teached to do 5mph on dirt road HA! tell that to the foreman...he said why you going so slow? GO GO! By the middle of the day I was averaging a steady 25 to 30 miles an hour still saying to my self this is way too fast for a dirt road! We did 2 fields today roughly 300 acres I dont know give or take.....Im going back out tomorrow but I will be talking to my DM about the meeting tuesday I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for the support guys.

Good luck! I had fun the other day hauling sweetcorn during the nights with an end dump trailer. It was fun driving in the fields again.

These mega carriers go in and bet on the futures Oil markets, they also go to companies like Pilot and pay for lets say 10 millions dollars of TODAYS fuel prices that lasts who knows who long, and thats just a guesstimation number, probably more. and use there network of fueling stations and the smaller trucking outfits just cant afford to do that.
Now with this CSA, they are going after the smaller companies using the EPA, with stricter emissions an newer trucks, the O/O and smaller trucking outfits just cant compete.
Trucking outfits like a Swift, or England. Knight have such high volume they constantly have a high volume of turn over they can afford to just turn over trucks like small carriers turn over tires, and since they are also self insured they can afford to hire young inexperienced driver, essentially gambling with the safety of the public.
That's not even taking into account the hundreds of trucks they buy every years, taking advantage of the tax breaks that the smaller carriers cant even think about.
example: knight gambled, and lost or will lose shortly. This is high stakes right here, reads like a murder mystery.

This just the beginning, wait till the complete NAU is done, and highway from Mexico, through the US to Canada is done, I am sure you all have seen its it being built right now, I59 in Houston?
Everyone said its never going to happen, now its happening and still not one wants to admit it. What exactly is that massive highway in Houston then?
BTW, I work for one of those MEGA carriers, I get to see it up close and personal.
Good luck RAG3 18 you'll land on your feet, you seem to be a fart smeller, guys like you dont stay unemployed for long. Good luck to you Bro...

There is a corner I know in Oklahoma City. It used to have a neighborhood grocery store on it until the Super Walmart went in about 3 miles away. Slowly and surely, their business declined as more and more people made the drive to Walmart until the local store closed, leaving only small independent stores in the neighborhood. These stores did not have much purchasing power and could not offer the breadth and depth of merchandise.
Guess who moved into the vacant store very soon after it closed? WalMart's "Neighborhood Store." a full-service grocery-only store that did not compete with the Super Walmart store. And guess what happened to the price of bananas and coffee in the neighborhood? And what happened to the few remaining very small, independent stores, too?
Of course competition is good. It's what drives creativity and lower prices. But as with all things, there has to be balance. Without moderation, there will only be one store in Oklahoma City and many other places from which consumers can buy anything.
Guess what will happen to prices when competition goes away? Sam would not be happy. The Challenger and trucker43 Thank this.
