Give them a short deadline to pay your deposit back using a text message or email in english,
warning them that you will file a complaint against them with the Illinois Department of Labor.
If they don't pay, file the complaint with everything you have to prove you are right.

That's what I did while ago and the state ordered them to pay me twice what I've asked for.
And they did.

and you should send them a demand letter , maybe find out who their lawyer is and send it to them also , and if they don’t pay , file a written snail mail complaint to the proper state agency , if you’re not sure which state agency , just snail mail several of them , and include a copy to the state representative that is from that district , or from your district if you live in Illinois.

Listen here Deano you can open a case with the state workforce commission. In the state you were hired. But they are very incompetent and it is a slow process most of them are careless and don't like their job. They have many many cases besides yours and about 30 to 40 percent chances you will win that way.
Many state workers are shady and they side with the business. Unless you get that 1 out of 70 that likes helping people.
Or you can sue directly with their state in a small claims court. Which I believe is the best option because their business will take a credit hit when they get sued. It will cost you around $200 to $250 dollars roughly more or less.
And travel expenses to the state you were hire but you can add on those expenses when you sue them. Calculate all that when you initially sue them and save your receipts. Most likely you will win the case if you have all the evidence you say you have.
Now this is all considering you did not sign a bad contract of course.
My friend was not owed that much so he opted for option three. Which was catching one of their trucks in the wild and doing damage to it. Worst thing you can do is nothing and let them laugh at you and they go living happily ever after you looking like a chump without the money that cost you sweat and tears to rightfully deserve.

Wrong the iL. Labor dept or your home state labor dept will do nothing. The fed labor dept will do nothing. A retired senator told me to call the fed labor dept. you need a buisness attorney in Chicago that deals with contract negotiations. Cost is 3,500 retainer fee to start. Plus 400.00 an hour. So buy a used lap top & get a printer to get all the illegal with holdings, truck, reefer, blown tires , etc that they took out of your check. This will take many hrs since they drive 7 days a week 20+ hr days. I also charge 375 a day for north east loads. Haz mat load securement ,etc . Basically the work you did you add it to the load.
