Well I'm tempted because even after I pay the 25 percent taxes I'm gonna make more than I'm making now, however this will be an OTR POSITION I am currently local. I'm trying to find a way to make it a little more appealing by not getting slammed on taxes. I'm roughly getting taxes at 17 percent, and from what I can figure 1099 gets 25 percent and up.

And you slip on the tractor step and fall flat on your back requiring a trip via ambulance to the local ER. No Workmans comp.
tscottme Thanks this. -
No ####.... Had no idea..

Sounds like your mind is made up, so just do it!!!
I'm sure it's gonna be no different than the countless posts on here almost daily regarding 1099 companies...
Once you quit they keep the "escrow" money they withheld, charge you cleaning fees, charges you for frivolous damages to the truck, and the list goes on.... -
Did you know you have to pay the IRS (and probably your state) QUARTERLY when you are in business for yourself?tscottme Thanks this.
-
I don't think it's that you " get taxed to death" it's that you have to take care of the with holding yourself.tscottme Thanks this.

Yes, but lucky me, I live in Nevada, no state tax.
-
Well I guess you pay your 17 percent or so tax, and need to also them come up with what the employer would have paid if you were w2.

No health insurance also unless you plan on buying it yourself. If your in accident and end up going to hospital who going to pay that bill ?
What about the truck they give you to drive. These seems to be the bigger scam I seen driver post on here before. The truck need a new tire or many things fixed to be DOT legal. The company say they won’t fix it. You are not going to pay to fix their truck because your independent contractor. Do you drive the truck and hope you don’t get caught. A really company has the money to get new tires or fix the truck and they understand it’s their responsibility since you would be w-2.
What happens if their is a freight claim or customer refuses the load and say it’s you fault? Who going to pay for that ? What if your late at delivery and customer want a late fee or they just refuse the load and first appointment is next week ? You will be sitting for free.
I had shipper that was 6 hour late loading my truck. My company called delivery and was told they will take the load 6 hour late. I got there and they refused the load and first appointment was next week. My company said take trailer to drop yard and drop trailer. Another driver will get the load next week and I got another load and keep on trucking. Not my problem as a real w-2 company driver. I even got paid to take the load 300 miles back to the drop yard.
lots of stuff can go wrong in trucking and as 1099 it better all be explained in the contract you sign.
