Company driver, little money saved, should I go lease?

Greatwide has a purchase program; it's not a lease-purchase. Try them as a company driver for a few months then if you feel comfortable they will help you finance a truck and give you $2K for the down payment. Their nearest terminal is Goodlettsville, TN at the Associated Grocers warehouse.

 

I think the basic formula is experience + sufficient money in reserve + a solid plan = success.

Lack of experience will cost you money. Lack of money will stop you dead in your tracks. Lack of a solid plan is usually because of lack of experience and money. But to answer your question:

Save your money and learn whatever you can where you are. You will need that experience for sure.

When it is time, try to buy a truck in cash. You must have sufficient funds to keep the truck rolling. I think most would tell you to have an absolute minimum of $10,000 ready for repairs, and that is above and beyond your startup costs. Living a simple life with low overhead is a great benefit. Also, try to get your credit to be as good and debt free as possible.

Starting out purchasing a truck on your own, you can lease on to a container company or whatever company you prefer. You can pull their trailer and save on startup costs and paperwork. Being able to do even simple repairs will be of great benefit.

Make a study of these forums. All of the information that you need is already here, including startup costs. By being well thought out, you greatly increase your odds of success. If you can survive the worst, then the best will come. Good luck.

 

A buddy of mine saved money, put a nice down payment on a truck from Lone Mountain, put money back for maintence. Leased on to Fed Ex Custom Critical and does pretty good. Put at least $5000 down and have at least $5000 for maintence. Start out ahead and you'll be ok.

 

Your in Debt right now I wouldn't even consider doing anything right now but being a company driver till your financial situation is out of the red... Looking at a lease might be the further way to add to your debt... read all the threads on here about leasing.... 95% are not good...

 

NOOOOO!!! If money saved a lot of dealerships can and will find a way to finance ya. Buy Buy BUY and lease on or get authority. Simple math will answer your question. Multiply weekly lease payment times term. And look at truckpaper.com for nice used truck. Worst can happen is a no on getting financed. BUY BUY BUY

 

Rajun Cajun must be a Dr with Patients not patience. LOL No, you need $50K in the bank and put 25k down on a brand new one. Write it off over 4.5 years and trade it in before the warranty runs out. At the end of 6 years you'll have income or you'll have to buy 2 trucks as the Govt taxes you if you don't becaus you made a profit. ("Even if you don't have a dime to buy new Cowboy boots") Then you have the headache of a driver or team and more taxes and it just goes on and on with never ending crap. New tires, oil changes, insurance, truck payments, FED taxes, ton mile, fuel, income, Irs 500/yr tax, and then they tax you more see next Reply.
