Hi all! Newbie here...go easy!
So I'm seriously considering a career change and looking into trucking. I'm wondering if the following is even an option...
Looking to either get my CDL directly through a company OR at the local community college and have the tuition reimbursed. Either way, after getting the CDL and going through initial training, can I transition straight into a zero-down lease-purchase? If so, does anyone know of companies that would offer this option? TIA!

Company-paid CDL training then immediately transition to Lease Purchase?

Where is your location? We need to know the hiring area you live in for various companies.

Good point! Davenport, IA (Quad Cities IA/IL)
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Sounds great. I'm a new trucker too. What I've read is that leases are horrid. Go company for a few years.
wheres da $$$, Puppage and Chinatown Thank this. -
Couple dozen to choose from. Personally, I wouldn't do a lease, but if you're determined we can give some names that hire new cdl school grads from your area.
I'd go with a reefer outfit for more consistent long runs and more miles.

I think you have to be a company driver for 6 mos. before the lease-purchase.

Schuster - www.schusterco.com - not sure if they lease; call and ask. I see their trucks here in Las Vegas sometimes, they do long runs; coast to coast & border to border.

Assuming you aren't trolling, let me lay it out for you.
DO NOT even think of entertaining the merest notion of the smallest thought of leasing, buying or especially Fleece Purchase until you have a BARE MINIMUM of three years (I recommend five) in this industry. Not just driving, but learning, asking questions and crunching numbers to see how realistic your goals are.
Seriously, do not jump in with both feet, or you'll discover that what you thought was water is actually molten lava.tscottme, faux_maestro, Six9GS and 8 others Thank this. -
Thanks, I appreciate the advice! For the record, I'm not trolling either! At this stage, I'm just trying to determine what my best options are.
Here's another question, if just starting off, would it be a good idea to jump straight into team driving or is that another no-no until I get some time under my belt?Chinatown Thanks this. -
Schuster might be a good choice for solo and it's headquartered in Le Mars, Iowa.
Their big account is Blue Bunny Ice Cream. You will get some good coast to coast reefer experience there.

For teams, I'd try to go with FFE (Frozen Food Express) on the Plasma Account. @TravR1 can inform you about that account and how he makes about $80K for his cut of the team pay.

When you go to bed tonight, have somebody kick it, shake it, and bounce it up and down all night long.
If you can sleep through that, you're good to go team.faux_maestro, Midnightrider909, FlaSwampRat and 2 others Thank this. -
Hahaha!!! That's what my 7yr old does to me on a ####-near nightly basis, crawling into our bed at some ungodly hour of the night. Sounds like I'm good to go then!
