I was terminated because I didn't have my PPE on while unloading at a tanker job. To be fair, nobody at the job did, but because I made a mistake and got some chemicals on me(hose was not fully depressurized and some product shot out when I unhooked), it required hospitalization(acid burn) and of course the company asked why didn't I have my gear on. Big mistake on my part, no doubt.
In my DAC report under Work Record, it says "Company Policy Violation. This was nearly 10 months ago and I have found another trucking job since, however it's quite awful and I'm trying to get into something better.
How negatively does this impact my likelihood of landing a good trucking job, such as ABF/OD/Saia/etc? I know the job market is terrible right now and none of the good LTL's are hiring in my area, but I feel this violation could be a barrier in the future even though it wasn't driving related. If I could just get an interview and explain the reason for the termination, I feel it'll increase my chances but I think these companies just see 'termination' and dont ask questions. I have 5 years experience, all endorsements no restrictions and 0 accidents/tickets.

Thats a big mistake to anyone tha hauls hazmat. But its likely to be noticed 3 years same as accident. But who knows chemical tanker really increased after Trump took office, its likely that will happen again if he gets elected again. And companies will be eager to hire

Why didn’t you wear ppe?
I can’t see being that absent minded (trying to be nice), but right now jobs are not easy to get.TripleSix, austinmike, wis bang and 1 other person Thank this. -
Too bad folks don't look at the bigger picture. That lapse of reason may have cost this person a lot. I'd imagine that infraction will stay with them forever, and anyone wanting a Haz-Mat, and most places do, will not take them. While I'd like to gloat, not wearing the safety equipment and getting hurt, well, they got what they deserved.

All depends on what the market is doing and if the economy is booming or not. When the times are rough, employers don't really need anyone so they get very choosey. However, when times are good and the economy is booming they'll lower their standards and hire with far less discrimination.
