Is it worth it? Please bear with me here. I am on the very low end of the mileage pay, ie...27 cents a mile, yet I do the exact same work as a L/O.
I realize that L/O are not paid by the mile but by a percentage. 72% of revenue. Where I run for 89.00 dollars a L/O may get 280.00 dollars.
Yes they pay for fuel, get the surcharge,...............as well as the risk. ??
When I talk with L/O almost every breakdown is covered by warranty, ok?
They may be out wrecker service at times. When I go down parts, labor, wrecker if needed is covered. We are both "down" for the same amount of time. Neither of us are making money with our rig in the shop.
I think I run hard. When I get a load assignment I start my run. My mentality is to get to the 90 as soon as I can. No casinos, no running by the house.................................
This has caused me to sit at the 90 for some time because I am too early.
I live and eat out of my rig. Except if I find the opportunity to grill something. I do try to get a meal at Petro/Ta once a week. Man what a life.
So, do I go lease? Produce is in season now. Per Don Lacey, we just lost at least 250 drivers due to CSA 2010. Probably that many new drivers coming in.
If I do the same work, essentually take the same down time risk, shouldn't I get the same pay?
I run hard as Prime/E-logs will let me, is it time to go lease??

Signed the lease Wednesday, got a Kraft load out from lineup Thursday morning. Had breakfast and headed to 01. I noticed that the truck was not running quite right. Figured, well may it has set awhile and just needs to be driven some, wrong.
I finally get loaded and head back to the yard to fuel and scale. All is good but the truck is still running like it has water in the fuel.
Get out on 44 headed East. I am grossed at 71360 and I can not get the truck up to 55mph? It is popping and hissing everytime I press the accelerator. Worse up hill. So I call R/A and was instructed to turn around and bring it in. They work on it a few hours and we take it oout, no different, still with same symptoms. Finall after I loose my load, they decided to take it to FrieghtLiner. So here I sit, a brand new L/O, no truck, no load and Tuesday is closing in fast.

Sorry to hear about that Slick. Don't they give you a certain period of time to turn the truck back in and get another one? I'm not a lease op, but I thought I heard there was a grace period of some kind.

That's the symptom alright... ECM dumps the turbo boost, cough, chug, black smoke, then it picks up again. Only way to fix it is back off the power a little...

The biggest boost in power in our engines was the use of a turbo to pressurize the mixture in a diesel... get a good leak, and its a massive increase in fuel at low turbo boost levels. And that's right where Prime wants us to run. Tightened up the clamps on my air-to-air one cold day, and what a difference!

Agreed... RigMaster is the worst POS ever hung on a truck.

Its not necessarily the ECM dumping the turbo boost its the EGR Valve that is causing the issues. Were talkin Detroit or Cummins right?
