There again, it is company policy. Many of them have the policy that prohibits using the truck at all during the 34 break for such trips.

Yes it could be company policy, I was refering to the general statement that you can't drive on a 34 hour restart.
-
Technically, you can drive the bobtail to get some food like you said. However, if you have an accident or event requiring a logging activity, you just lost the restart.
I know many companies that watch the activity on the qualcomm. A bobtail being moved to buy food, will trigger the loss. -
Bobtailing local to get something to eat should need to be a logging event (unless co policy) even if you have an accident. If you can't bobtail, why do we carry bobtail insurance?
-
Depends on way you are BT'ing. If it's during a break and with-in about 7 miles then no log. Otherwhise you had better log it.
-
Bobtailing when on a 34hr restart need not be logged on line 3 or 4.
You can just stay off duty, this includes trips to walmart, or to laundry.
You can even drive home if its not to far and your not under load.
But when you recieve your new load assignment the place your truck is now parked is where you need to start loggin from.
This being said not all companys allow this as bobtailing can be more dangerous than hauling a trailer. -
Kabar the only company that I know that didn't allow bobtailing was CRE and that was only their SLC yard.
-
I know May does not allow ANY bobtailing for personal reasons.
