I have to agree because it is just logical. Post the statute showing it is illegal and that will stop all of this.

The laws the govern this, Trooper, isn't going to specifically state "Employers can't make employees purchase cell phones to be used for company purposes" and as such the laws that do prevent it will be worded in a way that leads half the people here to believe that it doesn't apply. So the arguments will continue. It's not my priority to convince every nay sayer that the world isn't flat. I don't have that kind of time.
This is a great place for people to take in a variety of opinions and choose for themselves which avenues they wish to pursue. My purpose is to contribute; Not to try to win every argument. -
Can you just post the statute code whatever can be referenced for it?

I know employment law varies from state to state, but it's fairly uniform in areas that involve either the taking of money from employees or the requirement of monetary investment by employees.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
Ok cool and I am not picking sides. So for now lets forget all of this and think about these two issues:
If you have the phone to download the app that makes your job easier then why not.
Most importantly the OP may want to look at all the paperwork signed for that was issued.MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
For me, on the first question, I don't trust apps. I don't use hardly any at all. This is because I've seen what can be done with them. (on my phone with an app written by a guy who considers himself "average" at making apps) My next phone will not be a smart phone. It will be the dumbest flip phone I can get. My only requirement will be that it can make calls. But, for the sake of conversation, lets say I don't mind using an app, but I only have a dumb phone that can't run the app. Now what? What if I'm barely paying rent, child support, food, car and insurance obligations, and I can't afford the extra financial commitment? For those who have a smart phone that can run the app, and don't mind using it I don't see a problem at all.
On the second, any agreement signed could be a factor to contend with. So can a lot of small details such as whether the agreement was signed pre-employment or post-employment; Whether or not the agreement infringes on any law (which could possibly void the agreement) I've been told many such agreements are enforceable. If it was I guess I would have to decide whether or not I was going to keep the job. -
