Not sure about that. I'd have to check the FAR Under the Part 135 changes since the Colgan Air crash I know that there is a new 1500 hour rule that must be met before you are even considered for right seat. However, you can still fly passengers for hire under Part 91 and 121 with a Commercial license. I'm only a Private/Instrument Pilot and I don't have a Commercial License right now.

You can fly paying passengers with a commercial rating under part 91 only if you return to the takeoff point, think sightseeing. You can NOT fly as pilot in command in part 121 unless you hold an ATP, and most airlines want the first officer to also hold an ATP as well. Review part 61 for the time requirements.
MooneyBravo Thanks this. -

Yes, you too. I hold a private single engine instrument airplane rating. I have about 450 hours but no longer fly.

I only drive Chicago so all summer long I have good traction, except for some rainy days.
But before going into winter I watch those Euro videos of truck crashes just for a reminder.

Uncle was a naval pilot, with 20 years of flying and instructing. When I was young, I had an interest in flying (still do) so he taught me as much as he could (he was stationed in FLA and was visiting here) - he said to me treat the pre-flight as if it is a new plane and your flying for the first time, don't pass up a step.

There are many parallels between the two industries.
I came out of the right seat of a 727-100 and into management after we lost our major contract. After several years in management got tired of the less than stellar view from the window and missed being in the plane and started looking around at what was out there.
After a couple years out of the seat I was treated like an amateur weekend warrior who knew nothing......just like trucking.......even though I had turbine time and had kept my tickets current on my own dime. No way I was going back into a regional jet or flying right seat doing charters for salaries in the low 20's
I made more my first year in the truck than I would have getting back in the plane at a better than average training gig and in less than 5 years snagged a private fleet gig making as much now as I was when I was doing night frieght runs in the 3 holer.
There are quite a few of us out here. I'm still current and go every weekend I get a chance and would jump anytime the opportunity presented itself, but given the changes in the industry in the last 15 years it just won't happen. Not at the level I was doing it when I left the ####pit and I just can't take a 60% pay cut to do it.MooneyBravo Thanks this.
