Just saw this about maverick see link below,
also their words, not mine since january, of the 1200 that were chosen and or went thru orientation around only 300 still with company, some of that is Maverick full of themselves possibly, and some people not ready for the lifestyle, and some of it them foolishly kicking potentially good employees too soon. 1 out of 4 seems like a self fulfilling prophesy. Or perhaps they are subsidized by Govt to train
so many and intend to, like some have said, start canning people right off the bus.

I think it it the lifestyle of living in a truck and the very hard work that is associated with pulling a flatbed.
In my class, only one was let go before orientation ended. He just could not get the hang of securing.
I do not think Maverick is full of themselves. They just want the best.
I would rather work for a company that has high standards than one who will just take any warm body. -

No I am not there, I was sent home but I was not unhappy to be sent home. I was going to wait to explain it here but I have already sent a note to the trainer.
I was picked up in a company van by a real nice guy, he was really cool, said, welcome home. Then I could not believe my eyes when he proceeded to text while driving. There is more to the story and its too remarkable to not be true.
I learned much at the school and they have many great safety principles, but it was hard to remain focused when I kept thinking of what I saw. I literally laid awake thinking of it, even this week I still have, funny huh? They preach try to think of every one in the cars around you are your family, and I admit that has changed my perspective. Then I started to think of the maverick employees that lived near the terminal/ office and wondered how safe their families would feel.
Now I failed the test, the drive test, guess who was in the seat, same guy, he's a trainer, hes texting while me and the other guy are driving, we get back to the terminal and have to make a tight right into the gate, hes stops looking at the texting and says no you got to drive to the light..... any way he was worried about me hitting the curb, but I had to quit driving where he said to or I would have took out the card reader with the trailer. I barely rubbed the edge of a sign that was near the card reader. No dent, pr anything, just rubbed the edge of the sign barely, I stopped and told him I am very close to the sign with the corner of the flatbed. No issue though, then he looked behind us and said the other guy hit the sign too . It was humorous. Now I failed the test, the teacher said it was an accident. I shook his hand and said I was sorry that I was not good enough but perhaps it was for the best. The Trainer, was apologizing to me, I shook his hand and said dint worry about it, things work out for the best for all. I was ready in 30 minutes and took a long bus ride home, 25 hours, but I was very relieved because it was very hard to take some of the rest of it seriously. I have other observations that they should want to know about and could really help them but man this is an awkward situation dont ya think? They showed us a video about a wreck where a driver had a serious drinking problem, and they said many knew but no one came forward to say anything. Well I sent an email when I got home hoping they would remind all employees the importance of not doing that sort of thing. theres more but thats the important stuff. And I am not unhappy at all, relieved a little, we will see what I do next. But like they said at the beginning, Every one is not maverick material, and maverick is not everyone's best choice as a company. Its just the way it is. Sometimes its because of almost unbelievable chain of events though. -

Yea I mean I truly believe in divine intervention, and I think it was just not according to plan or what ever. I worked for a company for almost 18 years and they thought they were all that too, but I was constantly placed in situations where It seemed I was up against everyone over simple obvious quality or safety issues. Like everyone was pretending things were better, or solved, or safer when it was not so.
Or no one would privately say they believed what every ones sort of agreed to in public or in meetings. Anyway at 1 time I worked a temporary assignment where I was paid handsomely to document what all the engineers could not do correctly, man it was so strange. Then I was sort of in a place where I had to stand up for the engineers to try and make their bosses do what every one knew should be done.
This feels the same and I do not want to work at a place that feels that way. I know perhaps they all feel that way now, There were other things that happened where there was such awkward silence by other Maverick employees who were with us in training, and we could ( I could) only guess ( question) were they in disagreement with what was being taught or if they were recognizing they forgot, or were not able to realistically do what ever it was that was being taught or questioned. I know I may not have even picked up on it had I not seen what I did right from the beginning. Anyway back to your point Bizarre, I think it goes to show how isolated incidents or contacts with any company employee can totally change a chain of potential events. The trainer who picked me up, was only doing that because the guy who was on light duty ( the shuttle driver) was at dinner or off duty somehow for that hour or something. These chain of events are Not bad or good necessarily but did not Jesus say at 1 Point after he was raised from the dead and the Pits of Hell, "Things are now what they ought to be" I wish them well and really hope this message speaks to any one who can not put the phone down while driving any vehicle. For all the advancements in safety , seat belts etc, the amount of lives lost on the highways should dramatically decrease every year, but some new gadget or bad habit seems to present it self that keeps the decreases almost negligible. Destiny or fate? Anyway there was a study of some kind that stated this, the sound of an inbound text or phone call or Instant message triggers the same part of the brain that heroine addiction resides in, or the stimulus point or something, and thats why kids can not stop themselves from doing texting, even when they know its wrong and dangerous. It was like he tried to ignore it, for an instant but could not. Like you say Bizarre. and for the best. -
Not sure what all that happened there. But I personally know the training staff and they do put safety first. If you happen to have one person that was doing it wrong, you can not judge the whole company by that one person or driver.
Best of Luck to you! I stand behind Maverick and their training and policies 100%
I have rubbed elbows with some of the other flatbed companies out there and there is a difference in night in day!HoosierHunter Thanks this. -
Definitely for the best. Sure makes me wonder how someone so observant can fail a simple road test.
JimTheHut Thanks this.
