I know a guy who unloaded in LA and found out his dad died, company let him PC from Los Angeles CA to Newport, AR, he stopped in Amarillo for fuel, got a couple hour nap, came on in, it’s around 25 hour drive

My two most recent inspections: one towards the end of 2019 and early 2020 showed my PC - ing home for about an hour and a change - without which the logs would have shown 14 hour violation. On both occasions, the cops were more focused on whether or not I had the ELD instruction manual and spare paper log sheets than the very content. Most likely, they did not know what to make of it or did not see it as a big deal - in the comment section I wrote: relieved from job duties until further notice, proceeding to rest at home. Yes, I wanted to PC home, because the alternative was to stay at a truck stop for 10 hours and wait till wee hours before proceeding.

The funny thing is that prior to ELDs I had not heard about such a thing as PC...This PC thing must have been the invention of mega carriers, who get their ELDs earlier that tried to find an easy way of sending their drivers home. Yard moves, and then motion detection thresholds set for over 25 mph or more must have been their invention too.

All this crap is invented by mega carrier/ ATA scum trying to stay competitive with the little man. They pay the lobbyists to restrict the trucking industry so they can make money. They have to make it hard on OO or small fleets, so they make money with slow trucks, inexperienced drivers, and paying for driver assisted technologies. Just listen to the ata on satellite radio promoting all this crap makes me sick.

Don't have enough drive time to make it home in drive? Park it and wait for more drive time to accumulate. Then begin counting hometime when you actually get home.

Doesn't that sound amazing?

OR you can do like this Al Capone of trucking has done before and violate your 11, 14, or even 70 hour clocks.

And you know what happens after 34 hours, don'tcha? That's right. You get a fresh 70.

All that pissing and moaning about using pc gets thrown out like a piss bottle from a white Volvo.

It doesn't solve the problem of your 34. Park it on the way home and if you're only home 24 hours, now you go to recap

Company drivers listen to the rules of the company they work for. The company sets those guidelines. Some are 1 HR in a 24 HR period. Max.

Obviously neither of these count. That said, 4 hour or 20 minutes that run wss not a valid use of PC anyway. DOT sees going home after unloading as a continuation of the trip, so under dispatch. I don't agree, but I'm not DOT. This doesn't fall under the to/from terminal to house usage as the reciever isn't the terminal.

May a driver, who drops his or her last load at a receiver’s facility use personal conveyance to return to their normal work location (i.e. home or terminal?)

No. Returning home or to the terminal from a dispatched trip is a continuation of the trip, and therefore cannot be considered personal conveyance.

This is the correct answer. Legally, PC is NOT your free ticket home.

The officer in question was a totally cool guy to let you on your way. He could have shut you down.

Minor nit pick.

If home is where you started from, as opposed to company yard, you cannot PC home. This affects mostly O/O's, but some company drivers too.
If the yard is where you started from, you can PC home, but only from the yard.

This is also in the guidance.....

Same thing here as your speeding example. The officer decided not to enforce the very clear guidance on this.

1 minute or 100 hours doesn't matter as any use of PC for going home after unloading isn't valid, thus not legal.
