Hello,
Just a few questions about being a linehaul driver for Con-Way.
I'm looking into being a night linehaul driver and wondering what the typical night is like. I know hauling doubles from terminal to terminal and working the dock, but anything more specific would be helpful.
How are logs/HOS handled? Are they electronic or paper? Computer/Qualcomm?
I understand you go through 2 weeks training before being released on your own or whatever? What's the training like? Do you ride with someone a few days and do a trip back/there or what?
Thanks

You aren't going go get a line haul gig off the bat.
Greater chance the larger the terminal.
All runs are bid on seniority.
Where are you located? -
I was actually told I was being hired for nighttime linehaul in the interview. I don't see any reason why they would lie. I'm in the NE.

Paper log.
I am at a small terminal in GA and we had guys go straight to night time linehaul. I was hired for day time P&D last year and that is what I wanted.
Our linehaul start times start around 1930 with last departure around 2030-2100. They are normally back around 0900-1000. Being low on the seniority board don't expect a long linehaul run. Our bottom guys run to the Atlanta FAC and work the dock (86 miles one way), if they are lucky they will get a double turn. More senior guys run to Birmingham, Tallahassee, etc. We have one extended lane that two guys run in a sleeper to Charlotte every night.
Hope this helps. -
Thank you guys for the replies! I'm excited to start.. Just waiting on the background/verification.
