    Hello all, I just joined this board today... I have been at Con-Way Freight for 8 years and one month. all and all I have really enjoyed my job here, home everyday, good pay, american dream.... (2 cars,2 house payments,and I do car racing), so I have lots of toys.... of course we all would love to make more... but the more you make the more you want. I have family and friends that work for UPS/package NOT Freight.... and they make 31.00 per hour reg.... so about 46 on OT... but being at the bottom would suck for 20 plus years!! ANYWAY.. I believe Con-way is a good company and dont have any plans of going anywhere. like others have said the flex board can be rough but I made it off it in 13 months! others people didnt even have uniforms yet... you just have to get hired at the right time at the right termanal!
    I live in KS and our current pay is 23.55 on the TOP scale. it takes 5 years plus your 90 days to get there...we are getting a 2.5 percent raise in less then 2 weeks! that will bump us to 24.14 per hour. my P&D route paid me about 62K last year. and when I was on line haul 4 years ago I made 76K (not on top Scale yet) if on top scale I would of made about 85-90k on that linehaul run. If I can help drop me a note and I will tell ya what I have been through with Con-Way.

    I'm in the process of being hired by CWF now. I've already completed the driving test, drug screen, DOT physical & company physical. The next step is my background checks (employment, criminal, mvr) which are being done by HireRight. I've read many horrible reviews about this company over the internet, especially when asking for W-2's & paystubs of past employers to verify employment. Now I'm a little bit nervous lol. Have any y'all been thru the HireRight process?

    I dont know if that is what they used when i got hired. Over 8 years ago. I know they checked all that stuff though. And every year they make us sign a form so they can run our MVR. And it really seams like no big deal. What terminal are you going to be working out of?

    Didnt have to show physical proof of that, they just called to verify employment.

    as long as all your ducks are in a row,youll be fine

    I'm going to be working out of the King Of Prussia, PA terminal. That's the terminal that handles all of Philadelphia. Do you know anything about that terminal?

    @Century,

    I've read many of your posts & appreciate you telling it like it is, along with ACH & JakeBrake. Very helpful & informative information. So, how's going for you now? How many hours are you working?

    No problem brother, willing to share what i know.

    Its going great for me man, I usually bump up against my 70 hr clock every week. I run linehaul so i work the dock and drive. Love it. My run blows,but its money. linehaul or bust.

    What are you looking to do, city p&d or linehaul?

    That's great to hear! It really doesn't matter at this point lol. I know I'm going to have to put my time in to climb that seniority ladder somewhat. I just want to be able to avg. around 25-35 hours starting off (A man can dream can't he?). I just don't want to end up like ACH & only get/work 8-15 hours/week. That would really be a downer.

    yes it was rough, if I got 24+ hours a week I wouldve stayed. As long as you arent applying to any of the terminals near me you should do fine. My old boss was just really cheap and didnt want to pay overtime to anyone and would turn you around when you got close to your 8 hour mark. After I left me started making drivers come in at 11:30 just to stop that... You wont know until you try so it can be risky, but it is a good company once you got the senority. Centuryclass used to work at the terminal close to me and had problems too from whats ive seen on here but where he is now hes working every day and making money. Every terminal is different. Plus now it is starting to get busy again. I almost hit my 11 hour mark on friday for p/d driver since we got really busy again

    I'm definitely glad to hear that things are working out for you now. I asked at my interview how many drivers were at that terminal, the hiring manager told me 63 drivers. I'm just trying to get some respectable hours. I currently have a 4/2/2012 tentative start date (waiting on the completion of my background checks by HireRight). The checks should be concluded on Monday (hopefully) then I can tell my CWF story lol.
