The trucks being governed at 65, how is that really working for you?

Is it hard to pull triples up a hill when the truck is governed?

Thats a crock especially if you have something like a crap 9 speed. I can see a 13 speed doing a little better.

Well I ate my words this month, I always said that I would never be back to Ontario and Quebec after they enacted the 65 mandatory truck limit. But I got offered a load I couldn't say no to, and they paid for me to have mine set at 65 ($160 at Volvo in Fontana) and will pay to ungovern it when I get a chance in the coming weeks. It was a long trip back east, I haven't gone that slow since I got out of a '98 FLD that had an 11 liter Detroit with 4.10's, and was wound up at 70. Got to use my light switch a lot to flash for folks that were passing me! My fuel mileage was up a couple tenths, but it was a very light load, and I was coming east with the winds. Vs. being able to run, and log 75 mph in the western states, in 3 days of driving 65, you can lose about half a day. One of my comments to companies that always say they are saving $ is that a driver's time has value, and by maximizing speed (within the limits of course) you can improve productivity with only increasing the fuel and wear costs. Truck driving is not like factory work, we can't work overtime, or add a 2nd shift!

Sometimes you work too hard to get the miles. If every company bases their trips on 50mph average 65 makes the day easier. Or so I am told! :biggrin_2559:

A friend used to drive pulling doubles for Watkins 43 or 48 is what they planned their trips to.

He's not pulling doubles triples if he's governed at 65 - the CNWY trucks that pull triples are from the Freight division and are governed at 62.

Keep in mind that a trucks top speed being governed does not affect it's ability to pull. That is a result of gear and rpm's. If the rpm are rev limited by the shop the way I've seen a few trucks then they won't pull for crap.
