Why pay a linehaul driver .55 cpm when some moron will haul it for less than .40 cpm?

Yea and these guys are just raking in the cash thats why so many of these companys offer huge sign on bonuses because they didnt have the same turnover as any other trucking company!:biggrin_25511:

Conway was hiring around here for a long time probably still is. Kinda hard for them to compete with the hazmat market around here, oilfield work pays better.

For whatever reason, Con-way's pay scale is still much better up north. We make a few CPM more, more per hour, and have OT at 8/40 instead of 50 hours. I have heard this makes it tough to get drivers in the southern areas where there is oilfield work.

Yes i know some of these oil haulers get paid by the load. Bringing in over 300 a day without working excessive hours.

Iam seriously considering getting my haz mat. Unfortunately some of the other haz mat work doesnt pay as well. Some of it requires more labor also.

16 hours i got in yesterday. lol i need some sleep.

Are you kidding me? I know Conway linehaul drivers around here doing over $80k and home everynight. The thing is, they bought CFI and called it Conway Truckload and they're farming out some of that work to CFI...hence my statement that why pay a guy .55 cpm when some idiot will haul the same load for .37 cpm?

As far as the oilfield...who the hell want to work 16 hours per day? I mean, the pay might be better...but no way I'm working 16 hours per day in a daycab. The hell with that BS. I'm at FedEx Freight doing $22.00/hr with OT after 8/40. Only work about about 9 hours per day...that's enough for me. I'd rather enjoy life not live on the job for 16 hours.

I have been running the heck out of LTL loads from Ohio to the Northeast for the past 3 months. From what I have learned many of the loads need to be ran between Saturday morning and be in the Northeast bby Sunday night (pretty easy run), but none of the LTL company's drivers want to do it. The company even offered to pay extra. I'm not sure on how much the company offered the drivers. But it must of been pretty good, cause I'm making a killing on the loads. By the way the LTL company isn't Conway Truckload (since you guys were on the topic).

    BS! Who told you that?
I haul mail on the weekend and I see LTL trucks out there all the time.
You know how many guys are out of work in LTL and would like to take those runs?
What are you making for pulling those loads on the weekend?
LOL you got the job cause you work cheap my friend.

I understand that there are many guys that would like to have the work. To be honest, it's not my companies freight to begin with, so if the LTL company ran it that would be fine with me (Schneider brokers out some of our freight just like this LTL company is doing). I make around $2.30 a mile (actual mileage used not HHM). Also I don't work cheap and take offense to that. You really shoudn't tell a person they work cheap until you know what they are making.

Most oil haulers and up don't work the hours i do, hell i don't work those hours on regular basis. You have to understand oil rigs cant just stop so there's jobs out here that have to be done regardless of DOT rules or how long you been awake already. This work isn't for the weak.:biggrin_25512: Most companies that do not run shifts and rotate out on a regular basis give there drivers sleepers so they can take naps if need be.

Con way had truckload long before they merged with cfi.
