That is the one I want to apply to. It is less than 30 miles from my home. I don't mind humping on the dock, it will keep me from getting fat and save me gym membership money. I am really nervous because I am afraid that if someday I want to haul tankers in Texas, (I like to plan for the future it is the Financial Advisor in me), that the LTL/Local stuff at Conway won't count as enough experience. However, if I like Conway I might make a full career out of it. Do you know how hard it is to get transferred to another terminal? I want to move closer to my family in Texas and get out of California in a year or two. I'd like to work out of Houston. Thanks for the help.[/TD]

Yes you can transfer at any time to a different terminal anywhere in the company that has an opening, even within your 90 days of hire.

    Gunner710 Thanks this.

Awesome! Do you know how soon I should apply? I start my CDL training on July 22. It is a 240 hour one on one course. Do I have to wait until I finish my course to apply, or can I apply a few weeks before I graduate? Also does seniority start over if you switch terminals? Does the pay stay the same when you move? (i.e they pay 20.95 in Cali but start at 19.95 in Houston), will I take a pay cut to transfer?

Thanks for all your help Century, If Con-Way gives bonuses for new drivers let me know. I will put it on my application.

No con-way doesnt give referral bonuses, and either way I wouldnt want one. I dont mind helping out.

I say go apply right now. Whats the worst that could happen?

Yes you lose your seniority in a transfer, but you get to keep your company time and vacation. You become a full time employee after 90 days so you go below all other regular employees but above all supplemental employees.

And yes you will take a paycut if you start at a higher rate and transfer to a terminal that pays less.

It was a sad day in the industry when CF drivers showed up for work only to find that the gates were locked. I had a lot of good friends affected by that. But the show must go on and Conway seems to be doing fine.

You are right, anytime people are locked out it hurts but look around it's everywhere. If you would take truck drivers in 1980 and just give them a cost of living raise each year then truckers would be making much more than they do now. Middle class wages has almost flat lined from 1982 to now, I'm not sure but I was reading somewhere that middle class has only improved about 18 per cent while the top has gained 400 per cent. I hope they are not trying to bring back the sweat shops. Washington has turned into a joke, there is no one home........

You can't look at it as a pay cut. The cost of living in one city might be greater than it is in another. That is why Conway has an off set pay scale.

You may have see my post but here goes again: You can't look at it as a pay cut. The cost of living in one city might be greater than it is in another. That is why Conway has an off set pay scale.

You can also look at Bureau of Standards There is a wealth of information at these sites. The cost of living here in Mooresville NC is much less than New York NY, making 7.25 here you would need to make around 14.00 in New York
