I'm working the dock more on day line-haul than I was at night. I volunteered to come in early and break city freight so that's fine - getting forced on the outbound has me pretty grouchy after one week. I'm making a concious effort not to complain about it but if it keeps up I'm not coming in till my run time.
Like you said dock work is fine and at times I like it, but it gets to be too much and once I've driven 300-500 miles in heavy traffic the last thing I want to deal with is some 21 year old telling me I just have to break one trailer before I can leave..

What does their pay scale look like? Do they pay by the load, by the mile, and what do they pay to work the dock?
-
I'm not sure the exact rates down that way but line-haul is mileage and everything is is hourly like dock, fueling and hooking. Up here it starts around .40 something and 19 something an hour. Tops at .59 and like 24.95 an hour right now. Might be a little less down south but not much.L.B. Thanks this.

I was just told $19.25ish and .41 per mile to start. Tops out at $22 something and .55 per mile down here.
Oh and I start June 3rd -

Is it a "good" place to drive for ? It really depends on what you want from a company , read this .

I was told by the lead instructor at the XIN (Indy) terminal that just over 50% of the students there quit con-way before they have one year in .
Good luck . -
during my interview they kept mentioning the other work besides driving because I guess most guys come in and think they will just be holding a steering wheel, and they quit because they don't want to work
-
the ad is somewhat deceptive. It does honestly mention doing other work besides driving their trucks, but the ad stated for a truck driver. But you will NEVER see one of those big money runs if your terminal has them and you will do dock work more than anything. Dock work at your home terminal, drive maybe 2 hours and do more dock work then drive home.
