I remember when I asked this question and the topic grew to be huge lol. Insurance companies rule the world and if they tell truck companies no guns then that means no guns. I am a permit holder and when I am off at home I carry it.

I've survived 38 years without a peace-of-mind, but when I'm home, I have my peace-of-mind with me. You have to choose wisely where to go with it.NewNashGuy and Motownfire Thank this. -

Locked case, unloaded, and the ammo must be in a separate container...PITA (I don't recall if the verbage said the ammo needs to be locked, but I'm fairly positive it does not) The key issue is that it is in a separate container from the locked case.
I've been searching, but I think (correct me if I'm wrong here) Illinois and NYC wont let you even transport a locked weapon in a CMV...this is why CCW in a CMV is sketchy at best...where is it legal and whatnot
As a rookie, I am not gonna carry...but later on I would like to have my peace-of-mind with me...but if I have to stop every other state to submit to their rules...is it even worth it? -
Truckerdan80 what PowderJoints said is true for 99% of the companies out there. The 1% is for "special" loads the Feds need to be hauled. Usually with these loads you have an armed escort of some sort. Are there situations where you might need a gun.Yes, but in my experince these are rare. Like someone posted earlier the best weapon is between your ears.

One time I hit a guy,,, there where two of them. So I had to move very fast, and I broke the back of my hand when I hit one of them.
So I can see why you might want to use a weapon. It would be impossible to drive a CMV with your hand like that. -
"Trust but Verify" is one of the few quotes by recent politicians that I find is good advice.
I cannot see where the statute requires showing your permit when not carrying a Firearm.
With my status as a noob, I cannot post links. If you cut & paste uniweb.... you too can "Trust but Verify".6Shooter Thanks this. -
I can see why someone would show an officer their permit when not carrying. It shows the officer that you are UPSTANDING pillar of the community and that this minor traffic infraction is probably the worst crime you have committed in your life! Or if your a Liberal its telling the cop you are a horrible criminal killing machine that just hasn't committed your crime yet. LOL

No shall be the answer. I have my CCW as well but I don't know of any comany that does allow it weather it be trucking or any other field of work. No guns means no guns. Even if you did find a company that allows it or become an O/O it still wouldn't do you any good because you would be limited to where you can go sence not all states do not honor other states CCW. A lot of the scale houses have and/or are adding x-ray machines you have to pass through like Florida and Arizona just to name a couple. 123456, you still have those rights just not in a CMV. The company I work for has cracked down on such including random search of the truck where they will go through everything and even started hair sample drug tests rather than urine. I wouldn't do it. I keep things in the truck to keep me protected and training for self defense without carrying any of my guns although as soon as I park the truck when I get home I'm always packin'. In a good sense its probably a good idea that we can't carry. To many hot heads out here running around and someone might end up getting shot over stupid crap on the radio.
