For the record. Very very few humans are truly color blind. Failing that numbers in the circle test does not make a person color blind. It means a person has color defects. I have failed that test every time I took it even going all the way back to my physical for the Air Force. The FMCSA regulations (at least the last time I looked) stated you must only be able to see and recognize those 3 colors listed. I am even a licensed private pilot and got my class 3 physicals after going with a fed and having tower lights flashed at me. Once I passed this I was granted a wavior. Please be careful about this color blindness thing!

Why are people trying to tell him how to bs his way through an eye exam? You need to be able to see to drive. Eye exams and glasses are cheap.

I agree 1000%. Further I will repeat here what I have said about this medical issue many times in these boards. Your health is the most important thing. BSing your way through physicals and eye exams only make's you a ticking loaded (to 80,000 pounds) time bomb. This industry has enough bad press as it is. We don't need another 500 pound driver hauling a loaded truck having a heart attack or stroke killing that family of 5 on their way to see granny!

I will add some other links when I get a chance to find some new ones. Most of the ones I know about are now broken or are to other trucking websites like this one and it is not right to spam them like that.

My kid brother wore some THICK glasses in his younger years. There he was in driver's ed, standing in line for the eye test and he noticed everybody was reading the same exact chart in the eye machine. So, when it was his turn, he took off his glasses, put his face in the machine, closed his eyes, and recited the same line everyone else had been reading back to the examiner. He was restriction free until he turned 21.

The revenuer in my area had that little machine and Ive been sticking my head into it for nigh 20 years now thankfully. Especially after the new lens implant in 2009 restored my sight.

One year she had it all 1's and I bounced out of that thing and said out loud wtf is this? The people laughed. It was a one off thing. The next person said Four Aces on there and they passed him.

Re the thick glasses, I'll share something else. Back in middle school *UGH.... I had a gal, on the bus and everywhere. Anyhow, Father made certain to get the most turn off birth control glasses possible in the pile of glasses at that eye shop in town. He would let me run wild picking nice metal glass frames and then stick the worst blob. The last episode I raised some hell. The gal was good. But Pa has the last laugh in those days. Ha....

I have no business driving ANYTHING without corrective lenses. There are very cheap glasses available, you are right. My last visit was under $100 and included the eye exam and multiple pairs. They aren't the sexiest glasses in the world, but my bank account isn't either. Some glasses at the place I went to were only like $10. The doctor visit was like $65.

If you are going to spend money on anything routine medically, vision should be at the top. Nature gave us decent vision for hunting compared to other animals, and have evolved to rely on it more than any of the others.

Only thing to note is that often when you go to eye doctor offices, they have glasses but they are more expensive to other glasses shops that sell them a lot cheaper, or websites online that have pairs for dirt cheap.

Eye doctors try to get you to buy their glasses and will give you your prescription without the eye width values, so you can't order them. When you go in you have to tell them to include those numbers because you don't have $300 dollars to spend on one of their fancy pairs
