@sadwar: I appreciate your blog, I have very similar personal circumstances to you and am considering getting my CDL and starting to drive. Schnieder is a contender for sign on but I dont quite get the whole pay thing. Living in So. Cal. are you able to survive on the rates of pay? 2600 miles x $ .37 cpm? or is it less? more?

    Grijon and jjsiegal Thank this.

Starting pay for me was/is .28. I avg 2500 - 3000 miles a week. The short answer is no, I could not survive on my own living in the South Bay on what I make at Schneider. My wife makes more than enough money to pay our bills. We are planning on moving next year to a much more rural and cheaper place to live. I started driving so that when we do move, I can get a job anywhere driving a truck while she looks for a job.

Waving from the Pilot in Dunnigan CA (just north of Sacramento).

As I sit here on my 34 doing laundry I thought it would be a good time to update this thread....

I have been back out for 7 days since taking 5 days TAH. In those 7 days I ran 3300 miles, all in CA, OR, and WA. The longest I waited for a pre-assignment was 2 1/2 hrs on Sat, when they told us freight was slow.

I am still testing my idle enabler that I designed and built. So far so good, I am able to idle as much as I want, and I have the ambient temp sensor. More testing to be done, and then I will introduce it to the world...............bwa ha ha!!!

I am sticking in the Western 11 region this time out, as I have to go back home in 11 days, moving to a smaller place.

Hauled my heaviest load ever this week, 80450 pounds!!! Drove it 120 miles to closest scale, then back 120 miles to shipper. Once all was said and done, I ran all the way from CA to WA with 79600 pds. Loads of fun up the mountains!

Been here at Schneider 4 months and two days.....We'll see how long i stay.Due for my 6 month raise soon.

Didn't get 4th quarter bonus, was over on every category, lol....

This quarter looks good, got a score of 105 out of 100 as of today.

That's all for now folks, keep on keeping on.....

I got a conditional hire from Schneider and Werner to name just a couple. Werner says they don't care where a driver lives you can drive anywhere they have business. When I spoke with the Schneider recruiter he sounded as if I would have to work in my area, which I don't want to do since I am relocating soon and figure I might as well get the gig in the area I will be in asap. Do Schneider drivers have that option?

Yes. As long as you have a new physical address.

    Draped up and drifted out.

    Bigdubber Thanks this.

Ah, so I would have to relocate first. So maybe it will be Werner since they say I can run in whatever region I want regardless of my physical address.

    Thanks for the insight

That's your best bet. People crap on Werner, but they are a nice company.

Draped up and drifted out. Know what I'm talking about? Three in the morning, just stashed up my stash spot.

    Bigdubber Thanks this.

    Waving from the Laredo OC.........

Since posting last I ran to LA, then to Phoenix, then to Denver, and now to Laredo. I already have a preassignment to go back to LA tomorrow.

Been running good. Got lucky and missed all of the bad weather floating around (knock on wood!)

Did have a driver back into the front driver corner of my cab at 3:30 in the morning while on my 34. Smashed up my headlight and dented/cracked the bumper. Guy was very sorry and handed over his insurance paperwork. The Laredo OC where I am now is the first OC I have rolled into, they are fixing up my truck as I type.

As stated above, I have a 1400 mile pre-assignment going back to LA tomorrow. Live load on this end and then live unload on the other end. Then I am taking 5 days TAH to move, blah!!!!

Take it easy and stay safe.....

    Grijon and Bigdubber Thank this.

I was moving good until they sent me to the Northeast. Now I'm at a crawl finding loads that have people actually open for business. They are sending me to MA. I hope that mess is cleaned by the time I get there tomorrow.
