Not anyone in our office. They still think the fax machine was a gift from the gods.

I mean you got to use some common cents but, if your that worried get out now. I usual am part of the conversation before it’s even booked or have booked many a load myself. I’ve been in the office while they are booking loads for others. I got a pretty good feel for it.

The only ones that make me nervous are the buddy deals he makes with his neighbors or the church. I don’t haul them anymore and he knows it. He can put it on his own trucks.

My point was you kinda have to trust them a little bit or the relationship will never work. I have been suspicious before and kinda asked around but it all was on the up and up.

 

I initially wondered about that with my carrier until I started seeing rate increase adjustments on my settlements .
They could have kept that money and I'd have never known .

 

Ours is 6 trucks. I kinda have the dispatcher on a side little bonus deal to. Not a lot but she gets gift cards of her choice. Usually $50 or $100 a month. She has no reason to lie to me. I don’t expect anything special from her either just use her brain and keep the details strait in regards to my loads.

 

In middle tennessee every small carrier hires 1099 drivers. Its a very depressed wage region so even crappy freight at 25% LH is better than i can make at home including the tax issue. First company i worked for was cutting the rates to pay driver less and call it 25%. Funny cuz i broke down in my POV at 1am on the way to work.. and a stranger stops in a log truck to help me out. I am his replacement! Fills me in on the BS and it proved true. I quit over a bounced check (that did get payed)

Next job i walked in saying i just came from so n so who was cooking the BOLs.. So i will work for you at your 25%LH but im checking up on you behind your back. I did get a real good spanking for doing it at one place and making a bit of scene when the lady got mouthy, but i came back to base and didnt back down when they got huffy about it. "I toldja i was gonna verify my rates. You make me pee in a cup right? Ya dont just take my word for it do you?"

Few times here in the beginning i had to mention that i can walk out and be rehired elsewhere before i make it home but it all panned out. Theyve never shorted me in anyway and its a family atmosphere now.

The best defense is to just make it clear youre shrewd and have your eyes on the details and can drop them like a cold stone if they step out of line. They probably wont.

 

All I can say is the people I'm with have a reputation for being above board and ethical .
I've never had a reason to question them and know they might take offense to it or at least get me on the poo list .

 

If you call enough of them you will know. I would call every single one.

If they have nothing to hide they won't mind.

If they react negative then they are probably skimming and you don't want to work there anyhow so let them #### can ya.
