Confused about DOT and MC number...

    It gets frustrating when you have 70+ independents on the pier and another dozen doing shorthaul truck load stuff.

    They live in NJ, buy food, etc.

    Register their truck in NJ and NJ gets 99% of their fuel tax because Howland Hook is as far as the port guys go, out of state!

    Buy all thir fuel in NJ, pay tolls, repairs, parking, etc.

    Non of these guys wants to be a company driver -or- part of the teamsters yet if NJ is successful they will all go elsewhere or start working for carriers based outside of NJ.and WITHOUT them the port will suffer and the freight lost to every other east coast port between here and florida won't come back!

    8500 gates a day times 220 working days is 1,870,000 gates a year. there is no way the carriers could find enough trucks and drives to make up the 80% now pulled by independents.
