You'll make more money right out of the gate with Stevens Transport, Prime, Inc. or even CR England.
Those 3 provide cdl school training. Recent post on here by a driver complaining about his pay dropped to $1000 a week with CR England; that's just the freight market right now. $1000+ a week is good money for a driver right out of cdl school.

Can't help with the question, but I did get a question answered. At least I think I did. CLP is short for Commercial Learners Permit. Right? I know, I'm old. Never heard of such a thing.

Thank you for all the responses. And thanks Chinatown for info on the companies. I looked at Prime, Inc. and it looks like they send you out as a team truck during training. I'm not really the type that needs my hand held or anything, but I'm sure there will be those valuable moments where the trainer will see something on the road and will provide words of wisdom/experience that would be useful in the future. You don't get that if your training is asleep in the back.
CR England... I read an old post on this board (about 6 years old) that the company was transitioning away from solo drivers and focusing on team drivers... is that still the case? Couldn't find any info on it.
As for Stevens Transport... does anyone know if they send you out as a team truck during training? On that note... does anyone know of any other companies that provide paid CDL training that does NOT send you out as a team truck during training? Thanks in advance. -
CR England has solo positions for drivers with 3 mos. experience.

When I went through my state sponsored truck driving school in 1992, the teachers there had DMV authority (either that or the school had it) and at the end of school, the school gave all the written tests and using the schools trucks we took the driving test with the instructors at the school. Upon passing, the school gave us a certificate that we took down to the DMV and that certificate was good for the driving test, so all I had to do was take the written tests (again) and then got the CDL no problem. I already had a chauffeur's license and could of possibly grandfathered in, but I wanted to go thru all the steps, JIC so the company that I was going to drive for
Wouldn't have any issues. -
When I first started out with Werner out of Omaha, you had to go out with two different trainers, 6wks with each one. If just one trainer didn't pass you, even if the other one did, you didn't get the job. And it was up to the trainers discretion to cut you loose early, if you was doing good enough in their eyes.
My first trainer was the best one, I learned a lot from him, and he actually cared about teaching a person. If you're reading this Darryl, thank you, I made it! He used to tease me and say I'd never make it being a truck driver cause I didn't drink coffee and didn't smoke. My second trainer shouldn't have been a trainer, he was a normal guy but he was just using me as an extra log book, that was it. Every trip we got, he had a calculator in his hand figuring out how much money he was gonna make. I could drive, and we made some miles, and he really liked all the miles and about the fourth week he said he could cut me loose early, but we were doing so many miles that he was gonna keep me on for the full six weeks. Two days later I told him that I was having feelings for him and he was a real hunk. The next trip we got went right into Omaha. LoLbroke down plumber, tscottme and Numb Thank this. -

CDL schools don’t teach you how to be a truck driver, they teach you how to pass the CDL test. No company will send you out solo without at least several weeks of time out on the road with a trainer. The better companies won’t make you spend that time doing actual team driving, ideally you’ll do all the driving while your trainer advises you and shows you all of the tips and tricks for OTR work.
tscottme Thanks this. -
I see their trucks around Las Vegas often. Day cabs pulling Target, Sam's Club, Walmart, ect. trailers. Those accounts pay pretty good and it's solo driving. 3 mos. experience required for those accounts. -
