Flatbedding is good for you. Keeps you in shape soldier. Do 3 months of just van and come tells us how many pounds you have put on. Flatbedding you burn calories and also doubles and triples are good for you. Anything physical in this industry is good for you.

yea, that's a tough choice to make. It's liable not to be there when you roll back through.

I'll help with the dilemma.... don't choose either! Though Maverick isn't a bad company I would suggest you find a small company. Your chances of success will be substantially higher. These large companies just want to keep their seats warm and haul freight at a trainee's rate.

Its the strangest thing, you run 3500 miles as a trainee and once you upgrade you find it tough to get 2000 miles! Wonder why? Could it be that those 3500 miles you were being paid a flat rate of $300 a week and now that you have got experience and are being paid $.32 a mile you don't get any miles. Hmmmm....

While it may be true that you can't afford to drive 75 miles home at first, I wouldn't stay at that company for long if that stayed true for long. If you are making the money you should make anywhere, driving home shouldn't be too big an issue. Also, even with the drive, there are definite advantages to leaving the truck at a terminal. Less liability on your part for things that may happen while you are home. Sucks to be home and have to go check on the truck every day. And many companies will want you to. All that being said, I'd go with Maverick for sure.

Why do people think flatbedding is a lot of work. OH! Most can't reach the steering wheel. I'm 65 and pulled about everything and Reefers are more work if you ahve to unload lettuce or an iced down load. I shoveled cow manure out of bullwagons and fixed flat tires to feed my family in the 70s. When I had a flat leased to anyone I never refused a load and if it didn't pay enough I'd ask for more. If the dispatchers screwed up, I called the Lease Ops super and told him they cost him money. He would scream at them. I never complained to anyone, including another driver and when I quit due to disability from severe disc arthritis and degeneration, they almost cried. I can bet money they would rehire me in a minute even now, without quesions.

Would any of you consider a 300-truck company as small? Maybe it is when compared to Swift, Werner, etc. Opinions? What exactly is "small"?

Say whatever you want, I've lost over 45 lbs, since going back OTR pulling vans.
