I always like the safety corridor signs. So when it's not a safety corridor I can drive as reckless as I want? "Guardrail Damaged" always gets me too. I have to be sure to remind myself to crash after the damaged section.
I couldn't take a picture of it for security reasons, but the Seoul - Pusan expressway in Korea had a number of places with about 1/2 mile between the traffic lanes (picture an interstate) and about 2 miles long totally paved over. We used it for a dispersed airfield... and blasting off with a load of 500lb bombs, napalm or air-to-air missles!
In Singapore, the freeway between downtown and the Changi airport is very similar; they just push the concrete dividers and planters off to the side and, voilà it is a an emergency runway for military use.
Small world dept... Spent some time working up in Ang Mo Kio (north of downtown Singapore) a number of years back.
Cool. I was there (industrial area, but darned if I can remember a name or exactly where) in '87-'88 building oilfield equipment. EDIT: I'm pretty sure it was Changi North Industrial Park off Loyang Avenue.
Again, I'm not exactly sure of the name of the neighbourhood, but it was between downtown and Changi Airport... the Geylang area looks about right. I was working for Dowell Schlumberger at the time and they had a very nice staff house to stay at. Most of my time there I was the only one in the two-story, five-bedroom condo.
