That is great that you have found a better fit for you, but I would bet that there are plenty of drivers who have negative things to say about that carrier too. It is the nature of the business, what is good for one is not good for another, just the way it is. You suggested another poster look for a different place and that is what you did. I would bet there are former drivers from there that would recommend you do the same thing. They would be no more correct than you are.

I am a company driver, less than a year with Stevens and I am making around $800 a week, week after week, It may have something to do with luck, it may have something to do with being in the right place at the right time, and it may have to do with my work ethic. Whatever it is, it is working for me, and it does work for others... Not for all though, but one never knows until they try.

Good Luck with your new home and I hope it is all you want it to be.

whitelightning everything you complained about was in the brochure...

I don't expect any of it to be a problem. I can bring a lunch or whatever is needed. 15 hour days? no problem. I worked that in the field regularly. hurry up and wait, yeah that's IT. waiting around for a trainer, half expected but if it gets yard or time to learn even small things from others around the terminal, I am ok with that too.

And you can also take a class or two if time permits waiting around for a trainer. Just let Randall know, he has no problem with it as long as you are ready to roll when you are called. Plus getting the class time while stuck in limbo reduces any yard time to take the classes later. Of course there may not be a class when you are there, I was lucky and they had the winter course going when I was around.

I almost fell on the floor when I called Stevens today for hiring info and was told they are currently not hiring drivers with driving experience! Just driving school candidates. What kind of trucking company docent want drivers with exp? that is a very bad sign, it scares me! :biggrin_25513:

I think the issue Suncoast is that the main focus is to train drivers as they want them traned, one of the ways this is achieved is after training a driver, when they find one who has demonstrated competency, an ability and willingness to follow company policies and a desire to advance his/her career, they then train that driver to be a trainer and train the 'Stevens way".

There is no doubt that you could step right in and teach a lot of drivers how it's done, based on your experience, but would you be teaching the things Stevens wants you to teach. There are certain policies that we as a company have that not all companies do. Things that are perfectly legal, yet will get you fired from Stevens if you are found doing them in their trucks.

I think the fear of bringing someone like you in would be the old dog, new trick problem.

Hey thanks to all who have posted on this thread including those who offered the cons to considering Stevens. I was considering 3 main companies, Stevens, Prime and Maverick. Both Maverick in Little Rock and Prime in Springfield accepted my application. Maverick never could offer me a start date as the position was in the Glass division of their Flatbed fleet. Prime offered me a start date, but with a 4 week training period with no pay. Their starting pay was the same as Stevens at $350.00/week. I live an hour from the Stevens facility in Dallas so that along with only 3 weeks without pay weighed heavy on my decision to come on board with Stevens. I do have a Texas Class A with all but Hazmat. I discussed with the recruiter of transferring into the Tanker division up in Jacksboro after 6 months. Anyone familiar with that division?
