Think all you like, but you are required to make certain calls to dispatch. Not QC messages - voice communication. Same with breakdowns - when you're trying to direct a road service truck to your location - if you don't have cell service you're going to be sitting for quite awhile. Then there's emergencies.

None of that is covered under "entertainment." You're in that seat to do a job as a transportation professional. This ain't about runnin' down the road for your "entertainment."

I don't know if you read all of it ironpony, i do have cell phone service, but the entertainment will be on my breaks, not while i am in driving mode. Don't think for 1 second i will take my job lightly. I was a reefer driver before, i know the deal.:biggrin_25525:

Good... then you understand why network coverage is more important than download speed. Many don't. Nothing more useless than the fastest smartphone on the planet that can't connect to a network - because the fun (but useless) extras they use to rope you into a contract along with network service are only available in major population centers. Typically you breakdown in the worst spot - like where people are outnumbered by jack rabbits 10,000 to 1.

Maybe you should consider basic cellphone service through Verizon, and a smart phone with all the extras from someone else if its that important to you.

What good is unlimited data when you can't even get a signal?

Additionally, if the coverage is bad and your phone piggy backs another network, don't think for one second your download speeds will be anything but lackluster.... But that's ok you've got unlimited data and 10 hour break to download that 15 minute clip.

I was in Lusk WY this morning. Coming out of the restaurant I ran across a Knight driver who asked me if I'd seen a pay phone. No pay phone, and he told me that he hadn't had a Sprint signal for three days running around Wyoming. I handed him my Verizon phone so he could call his wife and tell her he was still alive. Your cell service is your last ditch emergency communication link - unlimited data and no service won't get you emergency services if you need them in the middle of nowhere - and we do go there.

Walmarts straight talk plan sounds good, $45 a month unlimited talk/text/data and on Verizon's towers.
Since the old lady has it in her pretty little head that she is gonna quit her job and go to nursing school full time (she's the one with stars in her eyes lol) I'm gonna have to make that money stretch.

What is the average miles per week for a reefer once I go solo? I have heard 2500 but others say around 2k, and are the bonuses the recruiter told me about easy to attain or more of an elaborate ruse in attempts to get me to sign my soul over?

(Lots of stuff that would get me in trouble deleted about your comments about your wife's dream.)

My husbands AVERAGE from when he got his truck is about 2200. But that includes a few slower weeks, and hometimes. If you are asking about fuel bonuses? Keep the lead out of your foot, and they will add anywhere from $30 to over $100 on to your check. Of course, we only need 1500 miles for his gross check to equal the gross from fixing cars. Sad, huh?

Sad that while everyone is out there complaining about how much it costs to fix their cars, the guy who is actually DOING the fixin' isn't getting squat.
