Thanks IP , that was my way of seeing it but wasn't sure. I mean I've never driven in snow in a car much less a rig. Here in Florida panhandle we don't get no snow. To your knowledge do y'all have any trainers that live in or somewhat close to Florida ? Also one last ? would it be better to get my cdl with y'all or go through some school and get it? The not making any money during your training to get cdl's would hurt financially

I personally postponed my CDL trucking school until the end of March. I didn't want to be doing my everyday "pre-trips" in the snow or driving when the road are slippery. I would rather have 6 mos. driving under my belt before tackling the snow. I just graduated Monday and passed and I am waitiing for my hard copy from DMV. I had my CDL permit and all the endorsements before starting driving school.

I did all my training during summer weather. Didnt hit snow/ice til I was solo... IT SUCKED!!! My first real winter driving experience was on pure ice in Wyoming. Took me a min to realize what was goin on. Watched a truck roll over in front of me, a Conway truck. Its best to get driving experience with an experienced driver. I couldnt stand teaming anymore, so I just struck out on my own. I did grow up in northern Ohio, so I knew some of what to do.
Your best bet is to get it through Prime... They give you real world experience. You actually get to drive the truck out where youll be driving solo. This way you get to experience the life. Living on the truck, finding places to park. Its a different world from the seat of a truck. -
I'll repeat... you want someone with you the first time you tackle I80 in the winter. Doing pretrips in the snow ain't nothing. Doing Elk Mountain with a 50mph crosswind will have you crappin' in your drawers if you haven't driven on snow and ice before.
As far as CDL school vs company school. A CDL school is 140 hours behind the wheel... just enough to get you past the practical driving test without killing anyone or destroying the truck. IMO - and I did the CDL school and dropped $4500 on it - you're much better off going through Prime. -
Dragon to answer your ? ...... **** no lol. By the way not sure how the trucks run but Prime trucks are the cleanest on I-10 or I-75 compared to any I've ever seen. Just that small detail made me want to drive for them

Yes it will!!!!
You mustve not seen my truck lol Its filthy lol Cant help it though. -
I really thank you guys a lot . I respect yall's work and input. I'll hang with my job just a bit longer till around Nov 3rd that way I'll be vested in the state somewhat retirement system. That way I can use some of that money to pay bills and worry bout not paying them while getting training

Ord I've never seen the first dirty truck or trailer for that matter lol you'd be the first
