You folks understand that Prime moves freight 365/24//7? This isn't an operation that only runs on nice warm days when the sun is shining. Running I80 across Wyoming in January isn't something that training in the summer is going to help you with. I hope you bring your Big Boy shoes with you. You will need them.
Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and will be a definite asset to Prime. I have been with them for over a year now and they have done absolutely everything that they told me they would, I get home every 4 weeks and right now I have my daughter with me in Louisville. Go for it.
Yeah, I can bring my Big Boy shoes. But waiting for the "ideal" training window of time is not an option for me or anyone else who needs to get started and making money much sooner than winter. At least I'll have picked up some skills and know who to call in a pinch. I hope. I've never been to proud to ask for advice.
While training in gravy conditions is all well and good, I would put out the other side. If you train in "winter", you will have someone with you who can guide you through your first not-so-gravy travels through the mountain passes. I know of more than one TNT that stuck with their trainers for an extra 30 days to get that first snow experience with their trainers.
I have found that most, if not all, of the drivers on here are very helpful, if you are not an arrogant beast. (Not saying you are, just putting it out there.) They have been willing and forthcoming when Prime's canned directions were clear as mud, and Google-mapping the location was less than helpful. (U2!) They are willing to explain how they run their business. (IP) And more than willing to shoot the excrement with you when you need to vent. (DA1, ORD, Mont, etc and so on.) It's a good place to start. And a good place to continue, IF your family circumstances allow. Sometimes life gets in the way, and you have to move on, but that doesn't mean you leave your friends behind and never talk to them again.
Maybe, maybe not. If Mr. Loney can show me something better, backed up with facts, I'll listen. I've done a pretty exhaustive search on line in forums, reading articles and websites, etc. So I think my decision regarding Prime is sound. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
I may very well do that. Won't know til the time comes. Right now, I expect to be accepted into the Prime program, but right now, I still haven't even been made an offer. Of course, i didn't submit my final application until last week. Hurry up and wait!

My arrogance is in no way appalling. My family is now down to my wife and dog. She's from the Philippines and wants to see America, so she and the dog can be my navigation team. In fact, she may want to get her CDL and we can team. She is petite... 5'0"... but I think she can reach the pedals!
