I have been approved through the (federal) WIA program to be "retrained" as I am in a hurtin' industry (construction). So it looks like I have paid schooling to go to trucking school. For some time I have realized Prime has the best training out there, but... free school... hmm. One thing I did not know is Prime will credit your school training miles towards your upgrade to solo. So that nearly "pays" for school anyhow. Even with paid school, it is pretty tough to work, so Prime all the way seems the better route. Just sayin'. Maybe my thinking out loud helps someone else decide a good path.

Lets be clear. Prime students get a 10k mile credit to upgrade solo. Prime students only.

That credit does not nearly "pay" for school. So I don't see your train of thought on this.

Its 10k miles. Thats shortens training phase by 2, maybe 3 weeks.

Yes, U2, I get it. That is about 3 weeks otherwise spent in school, right? Time is money is time.

    Alright, 2 more questions

    1. BMI: I'm 5'8 and 280 lbs (Chunky, I know) I can get down to around 255 by the time for school yet I read somewhere that they won't even take me, although the recruiter said since I'm big all I will need is a sleep study and a cpap machine. This of course will come out of my pay, but at how big of a deduction?

    2. Resets: How do those work?

You'll get the sleep study. I'd you NEED the machine, you'll get one.

34 straight hours if either off duty or sleeper berth completes a 34. It also resets your 70 clock.

well, working out and dieting like a mofo trying for 250 by end of Aug.
I do need a CPAP machine, I have sleep apnea so I guess It'll be a good thing. (I wonderwhat waking up well-rested will feel like) I believe somebodytold me they give you a med card and you don't haveto start paying for it until like 6 months later. Can anyone clarify this?

Do you guys have to reset often? It sounds more like a hassle than is necessary, but then again I'm sure my trainer will teach me how to do things "by the book" ;P

They will start taking $55.00 a week out of your pay as soon as you start. That goes toward your cpap and your monthly monitoring fee.

It all depends on how you run your truck, and the trips that you're assigned. Sometimes you have trips that require that you just run as hard as you can, or you can do that regularily chasing miles. The point is that once you hit 70 working hours in 8 days you either take a 34-hour restart (aka "a serious break,") or you can pace yourself a little and start working off of the hours you get back each midnight on your recap.

da1 and Freezer Burn Thank this.
