this is about the biggest industry in the world. cant we all just band together and do something about it? i mean cmon folks if its that bad, all the trucks stop and the nation stops. do something. make a change. #### by the time we all stop complaining about the trucking industry, we will be dead. then the next generation will take our place. doooooooooo something about it. stand up together? no you all wont! why? because it seems some people are not happy unless they complain about how unfair life is. thats just a waste.

why Are You Still Driving For Them????????

You mean mileage pay is subject to change without your consent? I always thought before you take a load you already knew the cpm and signed some contract of sorts. Besides, if i were a regional trucker and I got screwwed on my cpm the first time. i would want a contract of sorts just in case they try to screw me again out of a load.
Man, sorry to here that. But it would seem this is a cuthroat industry. If anyone can always back yourself up with written agreement. That way you have a fighting chance in court if you go that way. I know it can be hard, but excercise you rights as an employee. If the OTR doesn't respect you. Why continue working for them? Get out as soon as you can. Learn to use them as they use you.
DAC reports... Is there a way you can get a copy of this? That way you can contest later if they put in a bad report. I know in every state there must a dmv report one can get. If one was in an accident. Wouldn't the dmv report and dac report be the same? -
It seems alot of OTR companies prey on the weakminded. If it sounds too good it probably is. My recruiter painted this picture of how working with werner you'll have money and get to see the USA. He might be true, but my belief is. Before I jump in the water I always make sure I sure I know what I'm getting into.
Talking to a recruiter over the phone, is one way to get some answers. But also talk to truckers on the road. Go to the public library if you can look up a company or companies. Go on the internet, look up forums on the matter. AOL has a trucker chat online. Ask users what they think. In the end you'll have to make the decisions. No one can make them for you. Take the good with the bad.
This industry doesn't suffer from pity. It's about the dollar, straight out! Invest if you can, startup a portfolio, other means of income. That way during the lean time it doesn't get to hard for you or your family. I mean there' so many ways truckers can protect themselves even the newcomers. -
When I worked for Werner years ago...they were a great company...I mean great!!
You could take your truck home....go anywhere on your off time...
fuel wherever you wanted...they had a lease purchase program...an honest one...
you got paid real money per mile...you could quite...and as long as you came back within 30 days...all they did was hand you the keys to a truck...plus drug test...
Werner was great back in the day...many of these companies were....the problems seem to begin when the original owners handed them off to their kids....
When the original truckers who started these companies ran them...they were great to work for...but when they started retiring and giving ownership to their offspring...that's when things seem to start going bad...
Werner was a great company to work for back in the day...
By the way...I hear Mr Werner is going through a divorce... -
Yup, their drivers were polite. Flashed ya back in etc. Da good 'ol dayz !!!!!!
-
It is what you make of it yourself. If the recruiter was rude to you.. oh well, this isnt an industry of pleasentries which you will find out quickly. I will tell you though Werner is a good company if your a good driver. Yes, you do get to take your truck home unless you live w/in 30 miles of the terminal, and yes you can take your hometime whereever you want, as long as its w/in your running area.
Jtrnr1951, I am a Werner driver... I would flash you in any day, even on a grade, just to keep you safe from those insane UPS drivers out there. Get your shovels out boys, its winter time..PM198, jtrnr1951 and luvtheroad Thank this. -
First off about your truck being unsafe, your FOS. One of the biggest complaints I hear from werner drivers is that they constantly get stuck in terminals because of being red tagged over simple stuff. They do maintain their trucks, better than most companies out there. If you have a safety problem with your truck, and they know about it, you wont have a choice but to get it fixed. Thats fact.
As far as low cpm, theres other ways to make excellent money with Werner if your a good driver. But if your not, then you will starve and probably should go somewhere else.. I think the pay is set up that way for new drivers to pay their dues, good drivers to get the accounts, and for bad drivers to hit the pavement.
Werner is a good company, but you just goto have a brain to succeed and make money w/ them. If you cant get your trip paperwork filled out and stuffed properly.. well.. your not gonna get paid for those trips..
Im sure there's reasons for what happened, but why dont you enlighten us as to what they are?? Im sure your dispatcher/payroll told you why.. didnt they? Most of the time they fall back on the driver.
Anyways if your still driving a old broken truck and still on regional payscale after a year, there's goto be a reason why that is.luvtheroad, Marty007 and red threat Thank this. -
I am considering both Werner and Swift. I like the fact that Werner has APU's. However as most people say there are good and bad at both companies.
Zwire,
From what I have read you are right about drivers paying their dues.

in my short time as a trucker i have realized something. if you have a ###### attitude you will get #### on. in other words if you are always complaining about everything then there will always be something to complain about. you hear it all the time kicking around truck stops. these people that work for the worst company ever and just dont know what to do because if dispatch screws them one more ####### time theyll have to quit, and then whos gonna bring home the bacon? if you have a bad attitude, you will be treated as such.
PM198 and luvtheroad Thank this.
