How much are they charging for school? Drumright was gonna charge me 2500 bucks if I signed with willis shaw for a year. I think they give discounts for certain companies.Dont let CFI blow smoke, find out exactly what the training is gonna cost.......I would have gone with CFI if I could have, they ARE a good company.........Wonderman

Wise choice with CFI, nothing like talking with humans and they won't call you by a number.
BOL to both of you -
Thanks for the kind words, we believe we made the right choice. Wonderman, Central Tech lists tuition for out of state students at $3300. My wife and I are paying $1000 each, CFI is picking up the rest. In addition we have to pay $375 for housing which for us is a small apartment. If this is something you are interested in PM me and I'll give you the numbers for Christine at CFI. Thanks again.

The reason I asked Was because Wikkis shaw express was going to send me there. They were going to pay for my hotel and the training was 2500 dollars, I would have been responsible for food and travel.....I think Drumright gives these companies a discount, thats what Willis shaw told me anyway.......Wonderman

I think I may be accurate in assuming Christine is a recruiter. You are happy now because of what they are promising you, and that is good. But beware, recruiters will make thier company sound like the best thing since sliced bread. I am not saying you are making a bad decision. I don't personally know anything about CFI. I think their tractors are red? But I just wanted to warn you about recruiters. And also, if you go to school w/CFI, they will probably want you to sign a contract. I believe that this is BAD. I would strongly recommend going to an accredited driving school and paying for it yourself, and it will probably cost you like 6 grand for you, 6 grand for your wife. It sounds overwhelming. But if you go to the proper school, you won't have to sign a contract. When you sign an employment contract, the company owns you for the life of the contract. If they don't give you miles, lie to you, you aren't making any money, etc., you are forced to stay. Under contract, you are not allowed to work anywhere else as a truck driver until your contract is fulfilled. And trucking companies are infamous for lying to applicants, and getting them to sign contracts, and totally railroading them. I am not saying that CFI will do this, I am just warning you because of all the horrible experiences I have heard of from real people like yourselves, that went to school, paid by the company, and signed contracts. I wish you well in your new career and hope this info helps you make an informed decision. Good luck to you!

Beanfacekilla, Thanks for the tip, I agree with you so I did some checking on this and other forums. Central Tech is certified by every authority I could find, also they are mentioned by several newbies in a very positive light some who have even gone through multiple schools. CFI does not require any contract you are free to leave at any time. Further after studying CFI's drivers forum and reading the experiences of pre hires trained at other schools including Community Colleges they terminate almost 50% during the 10 day orientation for poor skills. Pre hires trained through Central Tech do not need to attend "boot camp" and instead spend 3 days in company orientation. I sure hope I did enough homework before making this choice, but the fact that there is no contract and all the positives I have read and discussed with their drivers encourages me. Thanks again for the good advise.

Man, you really did do some homework. I just wanted to help you out, but you really probably don't need help. I just wanted to warn you of potential dangers of being a newbie, but you already know. You will definately be prosperous in your new career with your attitude. I wish you all the luck and much prosperity!

Thanks man, best wishes to you as well, hope to run into you out there.

Good luck at CFI and Central Tech. I am scheduled to be in the same class. I was tempted to go on the 9th of this month but opted to wait. I did visit there last week as well as CFI in Joplin and met Christine.
Very few complaints can be found. While I was in Joplin a fellow I happen to start talking with had been fired that day from Crowder. He had arrived the day before and was going back to Greyhound for a two day ride home. He was very angry. Under the circumstances I understood his anger and let it go. He said he grinded a gear, I suspect there was more to it than that.
Central Tech is very impressive and the staff was very polite.
