Good choice with CFI, I will be at orientation on the 1st and out with a trainer afterwards. (no crowder for me, i am in a special program at ATDS)
-
It's been about 2 months now. Tken how are things going at CFI?
-
Well just finished school at Central Tech in Drumright OK. The program was fantastic. This week we leave withour CFI finishers and should have our own truck in about 3 weeks.
I've had the opportunity to meet several CFI drivers and a finisher. All first class people. We toured the facility prior to going to Drumright and their war room looks like something you might find at NASA.
So I guess the short answer is we still firmly believe we made the right choice. I'll update again once we get done with the finishing process. -
Well we made it through orientation and are now headed out with our finishers. The orientation process will definately weed out those drivers lacking in safety and control skills. I've been told only one out of five who enter are certified on the first try otherwise you have to go back to school for at least a week. My wife in her usual quiet manner blasted me off the board with a competition level score, I am very proud of her.
Everyone we have encountered here is terriffic. From the drivers in the lounge to every single person in all areas of the facility (service, safety, etc) and are anxious to help you suceed.
7500 miles from now we will be issued our own truck and start our new career as CFI drivers. I remained convinced that there is no better place to start and learn the right way to do this job than CFI.
Will try to update during the finishing process. If you are interested in hearing my thoughts on the training and orientation process check out cfidrivers.com under the topic our users at CDL school.

I hope to hear about it. I will be on my way to Joplin on monday.

Well after spending a long weekend waiting, my wife {Stitches) got a first run of 1100 miles to Florida. I'm on the board and hope to head out a little later today.
A little about the orientation, the first day was your basic new hire paperwork (although you are not yet officially hired). Day 2 you take some interesting range and road tests. Not too difficult but they will definately challenge you to pay attention to all sides of your vehicle. Fail any of these and you get to go to "boot camp" at Crowder College about 30 miles from Joplin for a week of training and skill refreshing.
If you are a student graduating from a CFI approved school the boot camp is not required but you must still pass the range and road tests.
Day 3 of orientation you finally get your picture taken and receive your CFI badge, comdata card and a CFI ATM card good only at their terminals.
This company is impressive and their standards are a bit high as only about one in 5 get the chance to actually drive for CFI but in the long run I think it pays off.
My wife and I had a little problem with the finisher assigned to her and the company instantly stepped in and fixed it. We remain convinced that we made the right decision coming here.
More to come as the finishing process goes forward. -
I am very glad to see that things are going well with you 2. I was with CFI for a bit over a year and left on good terms. Wish I had stayed, but im home every night. They really are a 1st class operation and I am confident that you will enjoy your time with them. Best wishes.

I just have a couple questions on CFI. I wondered about their hometime? I have checked their website and haven't come up with too much. I also saw in a local paper, that they are offering oreintation in Des Moines IA, I didn't now if this included cdl training or just the oreintation? I only live 30 min. from des moines so that would work great. I want to start a new career in trucking and like what I have heard about CFI. I was going to call a community college about cdl training, but CFI's is a lot cheaper down by joplin, so now i don't know. Anyway, if this is the wrong place to put these questions, i apologize. I know skywalker and tken post on here a lot, so thought maybe they could help. Thanks guys

CFI only offers sponsored (cheap) CDL training at Central tech in Drumright OK or Crowder college in Neosho. CFI is also slightly picky about which schools they will prehire you from. If you are considering a local school perhaps you should contact the recruiting department and check with them.
For more information you can check out the cfidrivers.com message board forum. There is a wealth of information there that could be impossible/impractical to duplicate here.
