If you have to do training for the Az just go to one of the crooked truck training courses available in the Brampton area,I heard they can take care of things cheap.

The web page is correct to transfer a class 1 licence to Ontario you must have 24 months experience and complete a medical prior to getting your licence transferred to Ontario. Keep an address in Qc and work out of Ontario until you complete your 24 months you just have to return to Qc every 6 months for a week.

When I was writing my A written test at drive test there was a guy trying to transfer his license over, pretty sure from Alberta. He had 22 months consecutive at one place and a few months at another and they wouldn't give it to him. This industry is filled with so much ######## I can't even imagine how mad he was at that.

They have wised up to the fake experience that certain groups say they have. Many of the so called experienced guys fail the road test if they take it.

Is it just Ontario that is this awkward?
i was told by a driver training company in Montreal that if i got my Class 1 it was transferable to all other provinces.
Do the other provinces all have restrictions on license transfer also?

There is no standard in provincial licensing. Ontario requires training.
The same thing when doing an annual inspection. If your truck is licensed in On. a safety done outside is not valid in On.

It's that federal\ provincial BS again.

It isn't just Ontario. It basically depends on whether you want to transfer to a MELT (Mandatory Entry-Level Training) province, e.g. Alberta. If so, then they are more restrictive in terms of length of time you've had the licence and associated training and experience.

Check each province as licensing is a provincial power, not federal.

In order to transfer your license from another province to Ontario, you are not able to do that until you have had your class 1 for 2 years plus, or you take the mandatory driver training course. But what most drivers don't know is that you can be hired on with a company, But to become insured within Ontario you MUST have 3 years verifiable driving experience. The driver training company states its equal to 2 years experience to get new drivers in the door, the insurance companies don't like to insure new drivers so they increased the requirements to 3 years experience. Then when you transfer your Class 1 to and AZ in Ontario you have to have a drivers medical completed and pass that exam.

Seems like many provinces want you to have held a license for minimum 2 years or have taken MELT in order to make a straight across exchange.
