Bad advice. I have seen plenty of drivers sent packing during orientation because they forgot about their past. Better to list it then get fired later when they find out.

Kevin I to have a felony conviction from 23 years ago. While some companies will not hire a felon regardless, there are tons that will given the conviction was from 3 to 10 years ago with the exeption of serious drug convictions. A lot of good reputable companies will give you a chance. Also if you havent done so already you should look into getting a pardon from the state you were convicted in. It won't erase your past but it tends to sway potential employers veiw of you, if the state forgives you its hard for them to hang it over you head. But there will always be those that believe we are scum and should be banished to some remote part of the world to to die a lonely death. lol

Do you think its good for a felon to lie? Wouldn't say much for him/her if they say they changed their ways, but can't seem to tell the truth. The consequences are generally harsher when lies are told and found later.

    Falcon,

I'm going to have to agree with Luvmyhub on that one. HORRIBLE advice. I work at a truck driver training facility, and it is amazing how many students think they will hide a prior conviction. It doesn't matter how long ago it was, unless it has been expunged, it will show up, and if it was not disclosed, it is a safe bet that the student will be dismissed. That is the policy at my facility. If it is disclosed, we can work with the student.

In response to the original question about getting a job in trucking with a prior felony, I have a not so funny but unfortunately very true short story. We had a prospective student who called asking if we would be able to get him a job with a felony conviction (I'll get to the charge in a minute) on his record. We contacted several of the companies that we usually work with to no avail. Then we remembered we have a company that will hire anyone as long as they haven't killed anyone before. When we told the company that the gentleman had been convicted of a felony, naturally they asked what it was. We advised them that he was convicted of bank robbery. (This was the point where the other carrier recruiters usually hung up). They asked how old the conviction was, and we told them four years. Next (here's the punchline), they asked if anyone got hurt. He never became one of our students.

I will find out today if im approved to enroll in truck driving school. I'm still considering driving for Trans-Am once I finish school. I must admit it is much easier to be honest about a felony conviction. If you have a felony on your record there is no hideing that. Just be honest and up front about the situation and you may be surprised how far you can go. I will no longer let my past haunt my future. Thanks

Sorry that is bad advice^ i dont know what i was thinking i think what i meant was see if you could get some help with finding a company that will work with ppl w/ felonies,as in some type of agency that helps class a cdl holders with problem areas such as felonies or bad work histories. those ppl usually know someone on the insides of comnpanies who may be able to work with you.
