A strike is the only true way to straighten things out but now is not the time. We as truckers have a duty right now especially for our country to keep things going. Once this is over then yes, but we have to ORGANIZE and do it in a way that is in line, reasonable, and for the betterment of all. Think about it, the Government knows we have control of most everything if we organized. That's why they are creating driverless trucks. If we are going to do something it needs to be in the near future after all this mess we're dealing with right now blows over. We can protect our industry for us and generations to come if we are willing to stand as one and go about it right, but first and foremost ORGANIZE. Just something to think about.

That’s where your negotiation skills come in, the rate offered can be a starting point, to a counter offer. Ask for $2, it’s up you to be able to do it. If your current broker won’t participate, find another one. This doesn’t happen over night, you have to build relationships. It takes time. Walking away from a load will hurt, but don’t roll for a rate where you’re not making money. Know what your costs are, if you don’t , you’re flying blind.

Take this time to read up on history. Then talk about Organizing and Striking. You guys might just learn something about the Industry you’re involved in.

If your main interest is striking and not driving, maybe you should look for a different career. Construction can pay some decent bucks, in the state where I live, non union jobs must pay union wages and benefits, as long as it’s a government project. Federal, state and local are all covered by the Prevailing Wage Act. Created to take away advantage that a non union shop would have. My son in law works non union and his pay on public jobs is over $40/hr + benefits. He’s a finish carpenter.
No company wants to hire someone with an agenda. They’re looking for hard working, reliable drivers. Good luck86scotty and bryan21384 Thank this. -

It’s a Noble idea, but 40 yrs too late. The current make up of the Industry is by design. Everyone’s split into different Categories. Union/ NonUnion Company Drivers. Company O/Os. Independents. Too many interests to reconcile. Strikes are limited to each group. Workers are protected under the Constitution - right to assemble. O/O are prohibited from striking, under anti trust laws. Union corruption continues to erode the Unions strength. This Industry is every man for himself. That’s the Reality. Doesn’t matter which group you’re in. Even the Union Workers get the shaft, one way or another. Their wages have suffered along with everyone else’s.bryan21384, D.Tibbitt, PPLC and 1 other person Thank this.

I didn’t say he was gonna get$2, that was a just a starting point. But he might have sweetened the load to $1.60, that’s all. If you don’t ask you’ll never know. The squeaky wheel does get the grease. Sometimes you gotta fake it till you make it. How else you gonna learn.Last edited: Apr 13, 2020

You can ask for the sky, but when the sky has fallen, you’re not going to get it. Those tactics only work when Freight is strong. You either run cheap, or don’t run. Doesn’t matter what you want. If it ain’t there it ain’t there.
