Been at Con-way for 17 years and its had its Up's and Down's. I have a Good steady bid run and make a Good living at it.With that being said I also work LONG HOURS EVERYDAY!!! (13-14) its not for everyone but We offer the Ability to go back and forth between City and Linehaul and you Keep your Service Rank.Dont think most other Freight companies offer that.We go through alot of changes due to Conway always trying to stay Ahead of the Game and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. After the 1st year it Normally gets better for the New people but in the beginning you can Have ANY START TIME..Thats the Hard part.Good luck

Thanks red man, that's how it's been at most local jobs I've had. Start out as a floater and just hop around for what seems like an eternity. This Hagerstown/greencastle terminal is massive, that's hopefully a good sign of work load. I'm prepared, I'm an over achiever anyways lol.

Hey Redman30, one thing I forgot to ask them, holidays and sick time and vacation. That completely slipped my mind. I noticed the Hagerstown terminal is closed 8 days a year (pretty sure). Is that just for inbound? And overtime for new drivers is after 50 hours now, not 8 right?

Why did YRC & ABF "leave a bad taste in your mouth"?

Yes we do get holidays off and paid @ 8 hours per day. But only after becoming a full time employee which is after 90 days. Now after You become a full time driver does not mean that You will get 40 hours. Its more like 35 depending on freight and Your commitment to the job. ex. if You start complaining or cry baby You will get less than 35. But if You are willing to put effort in to Your job, Believe Me You will get Your fare share of hours. I been driving since 95 and I been OTR and now P/D. Now I make more than OTR. I average 800-900 take home a week. And go home every day plus weekend off. plus You get Your benefits. So in a nutshell if do Your Job and stay out of trouble You will be fine. I been at Conway since 2005 started doing linehaul because how they start You. that what You will be doing probably for Your first year or at least till the job selection process which will be in December. and that's when You get an opportunity for a bid. I been happy with them and never look back at OTR. One advantage that You have is that You will be with Conway central express, And they do get over time after 8 hours. Us at Conway west we get over time after 50 hours. After a year You get 2 week vacation but that's including Your sick leave.

You'll definitely stay busy out of XHG. Biggest or second largest terminal in all of con-way.Huge operationout of there.

There is enough con-way information to go around. Search and you shall find.

They have some really nice runs out of there...I know they get into the NJ/NY on the longer runs....which you will probably never get.

But if you want a hint of how busy you'll be. Find the break room and find the bid sheet/board. Look how many runs they have and look at the flex listing below it. That will give you an idea of where you stand.

You should still be able to make money there on the dock. Driving I wouldn't hold my breath too much.

With ABF I didn't really have any complaints on a company level or pay level as the pace seems very respectable and it seems like there are rather well-run company with positive cash flow. But I went for my interview and sat for an hour and a half as the terminal manager forgot that he had a interview with me and left for the day to go have lunch and play golf LOL. Like any other union LTL transportation company it would appear that ABF does have issues with their retirement packaging which is to be expected considering the union issues. Although I think most union LTL companies are experiencing insolvency with a lot of their benefits which is also to be expected but anybody can work around those there's going to be negative aspects to every job with those were not issues with me it was the way that specific terminal handled the interview process with me. It left a bad taste in my mouth because it was raining like that with just one gentleman who's to say the entirety of the company's management structure just not happy same exact way. I saw the way that I was treated as a precursor for the rest of the companies upper management.

as for as for yellow/roadway before I go into that I would like to say first off that I am six months away from my business degree with the focus in human resources. That being said I have a very intimate knowledge of business practices cash flow profit and loss etc. etc. after Doing hours of countless research into yellow their past and their future I don't have a very strong outlook on them considering their well-publicized financial issues. As I said before with any company or negative aspects, but when it comes to the financial conditions of the company and how well-publicized said knowledge is it left a bad taste in my mouth to even try to interview and to get a job with a company that I see maybe at best a three-year outlook with no positive cash flow to be in the street. I can honestly say I see bankruptcy within the next 5 to 10.

I would like to make one point very clear for anyone to happen StumbleUpon this post. I have zero issues with either ABF freight for yellow/Broadway. I'm just going off of all the intimate knowledge that the vast Internet has to offer in the media which all the claims are backed up by drivers on this very forum complaining about bringing information about an educator. That being said I'm just trying to make the best decision with the company that seems as reputable as possible, with a track record of growth positive earnings and cash flow and a solid 10 to 20 year outlook give or take the financial markets react with in the next 5 to 10 years given the slow turnaround from the recession.

It would appear that ABF is doing just fine like I said they do have some issues but they're trying to mend those as quickly as possible to remain profitable as a company. As for yellow/roadway it looks to be from all the information that I have seen on the Internet that very issues directly started maybe possibly when they purchased roadway. I'm not sure I'm not an LTL expert but when you look at the numbers and how management is running the place from the posting information about them on here, their outlook is very bleak. Any others would choose to come that would be awesome to keep the start going for a while LOL.

In the end we all have to make the choices that will best and most certainly suit our needs and that of our families if indeed we do have a large family like me I have enough kids to start my own football team LOL. That being said I'm just trying to make the best and most educated decision I want company I would like to work.
