Thats how it is company wide unless you're running a meet and turn. But honestly I'd rather load my own trailers if I'm pulling it. But it is a tiring job, Ill tell you that much
ConWay or Old Dominion ???

Well I used to load/unload trailers at Viking Freight way back in the day before FedEx bought them. Then I did it a while at Roadway. I saw all those drivers just doing nothing and I thought, that's what I want to do. Kudos to you Conway guys for being able to put up with that. Not sure if I could do that every day and then drive. Maybe every once in a while. I'm no spring chicken anymore either.

Go Old Dominion!!! Con-way you will work on the dock more than you drive, believe me I know. I worked 11 hours the other day 2 hours driving, 3 hours fueling and 6 hours working the dock.

Yea I still dont get about the whole driver/dock worker at CWF. Either you are a driver or a dock worker, there should be no combo... Not sure how Old dominion works that out but at YRC as the bottom guy theres times where you might have to do dock work but ONLY the dock, no combo for the day. There were some guys who got away with not working dock at CWF only because they played stupid.

Also the turnover rate at CWF is very high. At my old terminal we had a guy whos been there over fourteen years, had over 1 million miles driven, and he rolled a back trailer due to someone loading the heavier stuff on top and lighter on the bottom. Honestly I can understand firing someone new for doing that but someone whos been there that long and had one million miles accident free, along with not loading his own trailer getting fired...

I hope management is better then it was back in 2006-2007 when I was there. I do know YRCW still owes some major bucks for all the loans they owe, still seems a bit unstable to me. -
Company is stable and is staying afloat. And management at my barn is ok, not that bright

Are you kidding? Not born yet... I remember when HMO's started up, sounded good but the care is and always has been substandard.
Actually, I worked years in the health insurance industry & I could go on & on with that, but this is a trucker's forum. I also remember when unions were a good thing to be affiliated with, for the most part. The demands put on business is where unions & the employees suck the life blood of companies.
Fortunately, truckers are generally more business savvy to disallow total obliteration of their bread & butter. Yes, YRC's biggest downfall is they grew too big, too fast. I've worked for a couple of companies that did just that and are no longer around (ever been to Owen Distribution Co. in Sparks, NV? Gone now...).
Some of the original reasons unions began was to fight for fair wages without overworking employees by putting a maximum number of hours to be worked per week and do away with child labor, also to provide safe working conditions. Those items are now LAW.updem Thanks this. -
