Hi ECU51, I'm a rookie driver looking for my first job. I'd like to just find the right company and stay there for a few years or more. Con-way looks good, but they don't seem to be hiring rookies here right now. I'm in Portland OR but I'm ready to go anywhere anytime and don't need to get home any more than the company wants me home.

I got my CDL two days ago with excellent grades in truck school and a near-perfect test with DMV. Clean driving record with one exception. No background issues. I have as good a chance at being the perfect driver as any rookie can have.

Of course I'm looking to make as much money as possible.

Who do I want to talk to at Con-way?

All this from a fella that got his.feelings hurt, poor baby, con-way, us express, may, jbs wouldn't hire you.
Fresh out of truck driving school, and has a opinion.
Your story that they wouldn't.hire you cause if hourly pay is b.s.
oh well, good luc'k to you, sport.

Thanks for this ECU! I spoke with Keturah today, and am giving myself (and girlfriend) 48 hours to think it over, but am REALLY leaning towards CWTL.
I for one as a newb to trucking, appreciate inside/experienced tips and advice when starting something new. And as far as the 'rules', well, common sense should prevail, and I don't see anything in this list that isn't either common sense or just plain old good up-bringin!

    ECU51 Thanks this.

I watched a few videos the other day with con-way drivers and also read lots of threads about various other companies.

Even though I've not made up my mind to actually start my training, this company really sounds like a good one - thanks for the information.

Would someone at that 800 number be willing/able to talk to me? I live in NW Florida and not sure if I am out of the hiring area or not and whether they take on new drivers fresh out of school.

ECU, I just talked to recruiting and they told me that drivers average 2500 miles / week. Is this accurate from your perspective?
