cooking in the truck

The strip likely has a 15 Amp circuit breaker, which is 1750 watts. So, running two 1500W appliances, drawing a total of 25 Amps, will pop the breaker.

If you try to use all 6000W through one plug, you're going to have stuff start melting. Spread that load around!

 

For electric kettle (to boil water) I found one at 1,000 watts that works great and is inexpensive at Amazon. The larger 1,500 & 1,750 watt kettles you can find at Walmart were just a bit much for my inverter/batteries. Great for instant coffee, oatmeal, grits, etc Will boil 12-16 ounces of water in under 2 minutes ... (I recently came to find out one of my batteries was bad so that may have been part of the original problem with the larger electric kettle I used prior)

When I'm in the mountain woods, I set up the webasto heater to keep the sleeper warm and cook everything that I have.

 

You cook with the Webasto bunk heater? Explain please....

 

It does get hot enough to melt the rubber on your shoes if you leave them infront of the vent.

 

... that must be a smell that lingers in the cab....

... so what kind of cooking can be done by placing stuff in front of the vent? Will it bring water to a boil?

 

I have a propane stove to cook and when the truck is off, I turn the webasto heater to keep it warm.

 

I used to do this with cans of soup. Just set it in front of the vent and leave it for about 20 minutes. Don't forget about it for an hour though. Had a can of chili explode, sort of, as I pulled on the ring and it made a lovely mess.

Can't use this trick with my new truck as the hot air goes through a heat exchanger for the engine coolant first.

 

webasto to keep the truck warm. Saves fuel. Uses 1 gallon in 20 hours. Normal idle fuel was .6 gallon per hour. Saved money on fuel.

 

Sounds like the Webasto thing might work for bringing water to a boil. Perhaps this could have my hot water ready to make coffee in the morning instead of waiting for up to an hour for the 12v water boiler I have, at least give it a running start. Long as I'm running the W in the winter might as well make use of it. Now I'll need to find a container to set in front of it safely.
