You can call a truck dealership and they will give you the official eaton flush procedure, I worked at Freightliner and they did a recall and changed out the oil to water coolers with the air to oil coolers. You change out the cooler then drain and fill with ATF dex 3. run it at 1200 RPM for 1/2 hour, then do it again. Blow out the air to oil cooler, and fill with 50W synthetic. Be sure you plumb the cooler with the oil in the bottom of the cooler and out the top.
I am sure if you go to a dealer they will print off the procedure, and if you go to the dealer for you truck they will have the exact plumbing and parts list available.
Just a thought!serozhah, Chevyho and rollin coal Thank this. -
Here is a link to the Eaton Service Bulletin for flushing the tranny incase anyone else needs it.. http://www.roadranger.com/ecm/groups/public/@pub/@eaton/@roadranger/documents/content/rr_tmib-0124.pdf
Does anyone have some pictures of how they installed there air trans cooler? I picked up my eaton cooler today but there are no mounting holes or anything on it. -

I had a case of HIA I was thinking of the eatons I have seen metric on the bottom with the coolant hoses that run directly in the bottom, back of the case. If I had read you said you had the heat exchanger on the top right. I knew that the 13 and 18 weren't set up like what came to mind.

I changed mine to an air cooler, but am seriously thinking of changing back. The coolant hear exchanger also works as a warmer. In the winter time the tranny temps stay cold. So cold the needle on the gauge doesn't move. I honestly don't think that hurts anything, but has to be harder for those gears to spin so might impact fuel mileage. Any opinion on this woreout?

Quicker warm ups and even oil temp is the heat exchangers function. I can sure see the advantages to leaving it in tact. But it's hard to argue with time tested data of had it unhooked for 100000 miles with no effects. Thicker oil is harder to pump for sure. Splash is less too which means less oil on some parts. So I guess it comes down to which way do you want to gamble lol

Spyder7723, you running 50w synthetic? Do you guys think a cooler is required at all? I know my old KW w900a didnt have any cooler and never had a tranny problems at all.
Nunomorales956 Thanks this. -
I think they are especially with higher horsepower engines. I have a friend that took his off because he was in a hurry putting his wet kit on, hadn't had problems yet. Summer is coming thou.
