I would absolutely have a cooler of some sort. I've had an air cooler type for two winters now, and while I don't think I'm hurting the tranny, I do wonder if I'm costing myself money. If I put the heat exchanger style back on it, I will definitely
Keep an eye on it for coolant contamination. And yes I run synthetic.

Do you have a picture of how you mounted your air cooler?

You probably don't want to depend on air cooling ONLY with a PTO. If you are using the PTO under heavy load for long periods of time you will be heating the transmission with no air moving around it.

I can take one for you. I just went and got one from a junkyard, and mounted it on a crossmember behind the transmission, and ran two lines to it. I'll snap a picture or two and email them to you if you pm me your email addy, don't know how to post them here. I'm technologically challenged.

You want to mount it at the front below the AC condensor, in the winter you make a cover for it. If it is really cold you put on a belly tarp, from the front bumper to the middle of the transmission. I am sure they use to do the flush twice, they parked it outside to do it. I have seen them mounted all over the place, and they use to mount the cooler under the front of it, it got destroyed from road debris.
    Justa thought!

You look at it. Does it have coolant lines going from the engine to the transmission cooler or is it a fin style cooler with only lines from the transmission?

another question, if the coolant is getting dumped into transmission, and the level goes over the fill hole, does the mix get discharged somewhere? I pulled the plug and the oil flowed out but slowly. So the level was just barely above the fill hole... If i dumped 2 gal of coolant into transmission, wouldnt the mix have just poured out of the fill hole?

It doesn't take 2 gallons. A few ounces will wipe out the bearings.
