If its contaminated with coolant, the oil will usually be milky. Eventually if it fills up enough it would probably puke out the breather on top of the shift bar housing.

not right away... I lost 2 gal of coolant in last 4 days so i'm trying to find where it went. engine oil looks good and its level hasnt gone up, no white smoke, nothing coming from coolant overflow hose...
-
That could be a leak in any number of places. No reason to suspect the transmission cooler. Heck it could be dripping out the weep hole of the water pump.
serozhah Thanks this. -

nope, no dripping...

2003? Does it happen to have EGR? Check the cooler if it does.
serozhah Thanks this. -
I have 3 exchangers in the front... The radiator, AC and the 3rd... Would that be air cooled transmission fluid heat exchanger? Thanks
-
no EGR. I bought it specifically for no EGR lol
-
thats true for water in dfferentials... But i was just thinking that since both coolant and my tran oil are red, it would be harder to tell mixed coolant and tran oil from pure tran oil...
I wish i knew what a "shift bar housing" looked like lol. where is it in reference to the fill hole?
-
Id pressure test the cooling system as a start.
serozhah Thanks this.
