Think it's only about $7 a gallon at the Pete or kenworth dealers.

Being sceptical in nature, I say it all comes out of a tank the size of a football field, and they add color to jack up the price, BUT, like fuel, having the wrong color could be a problem. And if it's your truck, I'd add a filter. Not for sticks and stones, but it does help with the coolant lasting. I think the filter neutralizes acids, or something. I had them on my trucks, but green coolant was the norm.

I've been using the Fleet Charge stuff from Rural King (insert your local farm store if you don't have those). It's cheap, it's red or orange, it's within spec for my truck.

    Why only premix?
I use the green and add distilled water with a precharged filter.
Is there something else I should add or do because I don't use premix.
    Thanks

No your fine because you do it correct and use distilled. Most do not and its not worth the risk and most dont understand why.

What do you think about topping up the radiator or reservoir with just distilled water periodically when its a half gallon or so low? Since only the water is evaporating but you keep adding 50/50 pre-mix then over time you have too much coolant and not enough water. Might not matter depending on when a person flushes the system and puts new in though?

One would think that would certainly be a problem. You bring a good point that only the water evaporates from the mixture so the concetration does increase slightly over time. I have never had issues when checking freeze protection and I always add 50/50 mix. I would worry about adding too much water here in the north, say if you had a leak and didnt track how much water you added and it get too diluted. But as long as you check it and keep er at minus 30 or 40, shouldn't hurt a thing.

Buy it straight there’s no sense in paying more for half of a product.

They use deionized water for premixed, at least Northland does for what they sell.

I had a leak and had to add to get it back to the shop, what we have is straight, with no coloring. It's fixed now and keeping an eye on it. Previous truck had issues with radiators leaking, the last shop fixed it right.
The plastic surge tanks tended to develop leaks over time, too.
