Where is the heat exchanger located?

Depends on the trans model. RTL is ussually mounted on the top cover RH or passenger side.

Well while greasing the truck today noticed small drops of red coolant... Not the best picture put it's that little clamp in the middle of this picture... of course getting to it is going to be a PIA. The clamp is turned so I'm not able to stick a long screwdriver and try and tighten it. It's the clamp that has a screw on it. Located directly above trans. I'm assuming it's the clamp although could be the hose. The hose has that plastic protectant over it so I cant see the actual hose until I get in there. Think the only way to access it is going to be by taking that black wheel cover deal off in the second picture... This is why I always tell people they should grease the truck themselves, you find stuff like this. 20181014_103818.jpg 20181014_103910.jpg

Tis your heat exchanger. Long 1/4 extension can reach some or a 5/16 gear wrench is handy as well. Wonderful Paccar doesnt care which way the clamp faces before the cab gets placed. Glad you found something.

The hetaer exchange is on the right the part with the screw sticking out or in the middle where that hose with the clamp is?

Seems like that would be really fun trying to change. Could that leak at the clamp be caused by the heater exchanger being bad or do you suspect it's either the clamp or hose as I said in my previous post?

I would just suspect a loose clamp at this point with that style heat exchanger. I try snuging, if the leak persists just go in and change both hoses and clamps. Your floor plate/shifter cover will offer somewhat better access to the top of the trans if needed.

I m thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a pressure test once a week on a old tractor for preventive maintenance .

I have had a pressure tester for over 45 years I used onn boats closed cooling systems .

Very handy tool. I think mine is the same brand as the radiator caps that begin with am E.

Probably stupid question... When-if I remove hose-clamp coolant is going to run out like crazy right?
