what's my philosophy? drive it till it breaks, get it fixed, drive some more. if u r lucky it gives u warning first
Dave_in_AZ and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
That's not the philosophy that saves me money. Driving it until it breaks doesn't work well with OTR. I don't have all the answers and sure I get surprised but I try to PM everything I can. Also carry common parts that I've had to replace a few times.....like water pumps.

Coolant pump bad, and probably slinging coolant up on reservoir. Engine fan spraying it all over. Clean it let it dry and pressure test you will find your leak. Coolant pump notorious for going out on Detroit. Easy 45 min change.

Just hope the 2 aren’t related to high coolant pressure. Shouldn’t be a problem at that low mileage Waterpump should have lasted longer also. A Proper pressure test should include testing for air pressure in coolant also. Often times when there’s a leaking head gasket or cracked head, the weakest link will fail. Be it radiator, oil cooler, hose, gasket, or weak waterpump. Check it out, make sure it’s not getting pressurized. Just in case.
201 Thanks this. -
what would cause high coolant pressure? it's got indication of leaking from weep hole, temp sensor, and the cap, its never leaked out of the cap, doesn't even make sense how it would do that. seems like it could a pressure issue. Would revving the peanuts out of it over a spirited couple days in the mountains make it leak? I just ran Charlotte NC to Pine Bluff AR and had fun with the hills, before that it's been nothing but i-55 Houston to Chicago for the past 9 months.
