40% of this country has NO cell signal.

copilot is a full fledged map, unlike google that requires internet.

i found rand to be lacking in the address dept way more then copilot. but as for poi's and what not. there's an app for that. for free.

that's a good deal that miami posts. you all considering a gps tablet might want to jump on that wagon while is still around. as they normally aren't that cheap.

johnnyjaxx, look at the amperage of your charger, it's probably only 1 amp. don't know what your running, but you can buy 2 amp chargers. they are dual usb ports but the other port will only be 1 amp. found at all truckstops relatively cheap. along with replacement micro usb cables.

i bought copilot and an ipad to run it before i was even assigned my truck. i dont regret it a bit and i trust it to get me where im going. i will say though the truck routing parameters you setup arent as "no brainer" as they look i once had it take me on some crazy back road that although i was legal to drive on and had i been in a car or bike it would have been the shortest and fastest it just wasnt practicle in my truck with 49000lb of milk on. a little tweaking and it stopped sending me on stuff like that. it worked flawlessly untill the latest ios update but since the update some features will freeze it like setting it to show only the next instruction on the side pannel rather than a list. the poi thing is buggy and requires more attention to use than i can provide while driving but does work

also i not accepting some addresses listed above, i noticed this too but i also noticed that if i use the search function in poi menu i could find my destination that way and set it as destination and its isnt any harder or slower than typing the address in as long as its a company address or something like that.

i dunno if i could do nearly as well as i do now without it. im a little afraid to think of driving life without it lol

This is a good deal. It has one front-facing cam, bluetooth 4.0, built-in GPS, Google app store ready, 16 Gb storage (see note below), Quad-core, Kit-Kat. These are not normally ALL included on a sub-$100 device. Plus you have the old Wal-Mart return policy nationally if something is an issue.

Any catches? How did they keep it under $100? (these aren't trickery or show-stoppers on WalMart's part - just info for those thinking about tablets)

    a) 1 Gb of RAM memory (not to be confused with "storage" memory explained next.) This isn't a show-stopper, but you will want to keep the "running programs" list as short as possible. You can do this in the settings of any Android device. CoPilot will chew up a good bit of that Ram while navigating. Uninstall any preloaded bloatware that you don't need, and watch out for any apps that you install yourself for background-running activity (it adds up.) Most of the time when drivers say "CoPilot locked up" or other programs locked - it has to do with too much RAM in use.

    b) most of the 16 Gb on-board storage is already taken by the OS and installed apps. CoPilot (truck version) will take up a GB on it's own for instance. You will want to buy a 16GB or 32 GB SD card at the WallyWorld when you get the tablet. And you will want a "class-10" speed rating on that card. (now the total price will now approach or go over the magic $100 mark depending on card size.)

    c) Smaller, low-res screen. There is nothing wrong with this, but larger and higher resolution screens will look crisper and "fit more stuff." Movies, CoPilot, Web pages, etc will show fine, but will not have any extra elbow room. This (and dual cameras) is where a good bit of the cost-savings comes from.

    d) One front-facing camera. Again, this is not a big deal unless you are looking for a device to double as a decent photo or video camera. It will take "ok" pictures from the front and work fine as a video phone for Skype (or similar) - but if you are a photo guy and looking for a tablet to take hi-res photos also, then this would be a consideration.

SO - to summarize. That is a really good deal on an entry level, full featured tablet! And I have outlined any issues that anyone reading may or may not need to consider for any tablet searching on the "techie" parts.

Snowwy, I think I heard just recently that Google maps are now available for download for offline use, like we have done with CoPilot maps.

Tamiami, someone here can explain this better than I can, but while shopping for my tablet I learned a pretty important issue that you should check on with the tablet you are looking at. And that is something called, and forgive me if I get this wrong, CDMA? This has to do with back tracking. On tablets that are 4G, apparently if they don't backtrack to 3g are only good in 4G areas. This could become problematic as you truck from one area to another.

I'm certain my Samsung Tab2 10.1 has that capability. Also, taking along a spare charging cable was good advice, from Snowyy I believe, as my first one didn't last much longer than six months.

i tried that google offline thing, it did the download but i couldn't figure out how to access it. didn't play with it that much so might be something worth looking into. totally forgot about it till you mentioned.

i've always packed cables. they never last long with me. i get my best luck with walmart a/c chargers then any other cable. even stock.

16 gigs actually leaves 11 on my sprint note2. plenty for copilot. but i'm not doing anything else with it. other then mobile hotspot at the moment. (sprint unlimited) so it's basically a 5.7 inch gps screen for me. i don't need anything bigger. don't like my cab lit up at night anyways. but like diesel says, that 1 gig might be a problem though.

as for cdma, what miami posted apparently isn't internet capable so not an issue.
