I did do mechanical research as well, but i'm not going to learn everything about a truck from reading forum treads and in a year. Im a hands on learner. I learned most of my mechanical knowledge working on my truck when things go wrong. Yes an 06 has EGR, but I did the redneck EGR delete. If your saying fully pre emmsion, they only got better MPG then my motor, so my point is still correct. The big difference id DPF which my truck does not have.
I was just answering the question in front of me. Maybe the other guy could answer better, but he was not here and still hasn't. IF you think I'm wrong, then explain why, dont just criticize how I got my knowledge.

It depends on where your priorties are. For me a lighter truck is more important. For others having real chrome is more important.SheepDog Thanks this.

Now you have no idea what your talking about. And DONT YOU EVER compare me to the donkeys at FMCSA. I try to help the forum community by giving others the knowledge I learned. If you don't like it, then give your own opinion, but don't just bash my credibility when some of you are not even stating an answer to the OP. Your being bullies and showing your better because you have more experience. you could care less about actualy helping the OP. I starting to think some of you follow me around on this forum just to argue whatever i say.

OP ..... what got you interested in the Coronados?
-
Thanks to all for the replies.
Russell , I like the look of the Coronado. From what I've seen the interior is well laid out. Weight really doesn't bother me cause if heavier than 45k then I don't care to haul it. Got a Pete 387 now and don't particularly like it. Cab is too wide and good is too short. But I have also seen the coronado's are maneuverable. -
I used to have pete 387. It was fine. Built for comfort and mpg. I still wish to get Coronado.

Then i retract my original statement that the Columbia would be a better choice. The Columbia is lighter, but has a short hood like a 387. Cab in Columbia is wide to. (not sure how it compares to Coronado, but def shorter hood on colum) If wait is not an ishue, then the Coro would be a good truck although MPG is a little worse.Last edited: Jan 12, 2014

Sorry for the delay, we currently run 6 I shift 670's and 4 Coronado's in our long haul trucks, our experience so far has been.
1.) Fuel millage Volvos 6.6 - 7.8 mpg Coronado's 6- 7.4 mpg, however most of our Volvos have over 100k and the couple of Coronado's that are getting close or over the 100k are the ones getting better millage.
2.) Repairs to the 100k mark so far have been much less on the Coronado's than the Volvos, both have been covered under warranty except for a few minor things, we have our own shop and can almost do any repairs to the Coronado's if needed, with the Volvos most repairs will need to be done at Volvo due to def and not having the very expensive Volvo diagnostic tools and software.
3.) As far as buying them, we used the local dealer instead of Fitzgerald due to the warranty, when buying from the dealer you get a factory warranty because the motor is a Detroit factory remain and the transmission and rears are factory remains. When buying from Fitzgerald they rebuild those in house. However we are looking at buying more this year and are strongly considering Fitzgerald due to there claims on better fuel millage. Also they are promising there warranty will be just as good. We will see.
4.) Our conclusion so far is you save about 14k on purchase price and feel like over time the cost of repair, lower purchase price and down time will offset the difference you see in fuel millage. Also we lease our Volvos for 4 years 500k and have no plans of keeping def engines past that point. We bought the Coronado's and are planing on keeping them in otr until 500 to 600k and then using them for local and our end dumps. -
Would be better to get rid of all volvo and replace with gliders.
