If you could please find the regulation on that one and tells us that would be very grateful. It makes complete sense and I carry a pair of sun glasses and a pair of regular glasses. But to carry a spare of the same I just do not think it's there. I know you've got to carry extra batteries for earing aids and other think but I haven't seen for eye glasses.
You see it's no big deal until you start quoting law just because you've heard it and it sounds good. This area is so small and harmless it's not that bad. But get some of these guys going on about brakes and new driver just do not know what to do. The next thing you know they're been held out to dry because they took a shortcut in reading and did not follow the law. WE have to be diligent when giving legal information. Thank You.

Gashauler I too would be interested in this. I've always tried to take the time to be as knowledgeable on the FMCSA regulations as I can. And I know of no rule requiring spares. I also agree with your 2nd paragraph. I've always have tried to steer new drivers in the right direction because there are so many myths and outright falsehoods out there about trucking. Google the question. Read the FMCSA regulations and especially the guidance parts. Then if all else fails find the address to your regional office of the FMCSA and ask them. I don't want to offend the person that posted that, or violate the forum rules on civility. But you have access to the internet and can research most anything. Why not do that or put a caveat in your reply stating you are not sure about it. But most importantly, stay safe and keep it between the ditches.
EDITED
After posting this I looked at the information on the person whom said this This person appears to be one of our Canadian fellow drivers. This might be a rule there.Last edited: Oct 27, 2015

Two of our drivers who had medical cards requiring glasses were written up as Out Of Service in NJ and it shows in our SRS under the driver fitness basic. It was not on their CDL [betting it will be on the next renewals though] but the Med certification shows when they CDL is run through the computer [I see it on the abstracts for potential drivers from NJ too] so they were questioned and parked.
Both ended up walking to the nearest chain drug store for a pair of cheap readers and was allowed to move on.
